Arsene Wenger has revealed there has been no contact with Barcelona over Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

Barca made a concerted effort to land Fabregas last summer, but the Gunners were able to persuade their captain to remain at the Emirates.

It proved to be a season of frustration for Fabregas, as he faced a battle with niggling injuries and saw Arsenal go another campaign without silverware - while Barca were crowned Spanish and European champions.

With Barca so dominant both domestically and in Europe, they may opt not to bid for Fabregas this summer. Such a scenario would delight Wenger who has built his team around "the best midfielder in the world".

"There was an interest from Barcelona last year which I won't hide," Gunners boss Wenger said of Barca's courtship of Fabregas. "This year there hasn't been an interest.

"My No. 1 wish is to keep Fabregas - for me he is the best midfielder in the world and we naturally built the team around him."
