Wenger insists he won't be leaving Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has categorically quashed a report in L'Equipe that seemed to hint his was doubting his Arsenal future, insisting "this is the club of my life".
Wenger has endured a turbulent campaign, losing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, before suffering an 8-2 defeat to Manchester United as the Gunners slumped down the table. Arsenal have since hit back though, winning seven of their last eight games.
At times, Wenger's apparent refusal to spend big has led to the suggestion that the club's directors are more interested in making money than bringing success to Emirates Stadium, and it seemed Wenger was prepared to leave when Saturday's quotes emerged in L'Equipe.
"I will consider it at the end of the season," Wenger was quoted as saying. "I have two years left on my contract. But with me or someone else, it makes no difference. Who comes after me must have the basics to achieve success."
However, following Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Norwich, Wenger clarified that his quotes were taken completely out of context. Indeed, the Frenchman was only suggesting he would quit if he felt he was holding Arsenal back.
"I'm completely committed to this club, this is the club of my life and I'm completely committed to the contract," Wenger said on Sky Sports News.
"It followed on from a conversation about, 'If you don't do well enough...'. So I said, 'That's the only way I would consider [leaving], if I'm below what is expected at the club.'
"When you love the club you would have to show you love it enough to leave [in those circumstances]. But I've already shown my commitment to the club."
