The Mutua Madrid Open, held at the Magic Box, celebrated its 10th anniversary with the 2011 edition and to mark the occasion a gala dinner was held the Saturday before the tournament. Former champions Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Marat Safin were all in attendance.

Novak Djokovic notched his 34th straight win as he brought to an end Rafael Nadal’s 37-match unbeaten run on clay by defeating the defending champion 7-5, 6-4 in the final. "I’ve played probably the best match of my life on clay against the World No. 1 and the player to beat on this surface." His 32-0 start to the season is second only to McEnroe, who began 1984 with a 42-0 mark.
