Ryan Giggs is braced to discover if he will be offered another contract at Manchester United, and he appears ready to sign an extension if Sir Alex Ferguson puts the necessary documents in front of him.

Giggs, now 38 years of age, operates on a one-year agreement at Old Trafford, giving both he and the club flexibility based on his performances. He is approaching the halfway point of his current deal, and the former Wales international admits the time is approaching for a renewal.

Once again Giggs has shown glimpses of his class this season, extending his record of scoring in every Premier League season with his deflected strike at Fulham on Wednesday. Ferguson commented on Giggs in his post-match interview, labelling his performance "incredible".

Certainly United appear still to be in need of the guile Giggs brings to the midfield, particularly following the retirement of Paul Scholes at the end of last season.

The veteran is unable to start as many matches as he managed in previous years, and Ferguson could be tempted to direct his substantial wages towards a younger star. However, the more likely option is that the United boss will continue to employ Giggs for his vast experience, and the midfielder seems ready to sign.

"It's almost that time when I'll sit down with the manager and see what his plans are [for the future] and I'll see how I'm feeling," Giggs told United's official website. "At the moment I feel really good and I'm enjoying things more than ever, so we'll just have to wait and see."

Giggs also hailed the recent success of his partnership with Michael Carrick in the centre of the park. Carrick's form has seen him become one of United's star performers this season, and Giggs admits he is a joy to play with.

"I love playing [in midfield]. I've made no secret of that and it's probably my preferred position now," Giggs said. "I said the other night it's a joy for me and Michael to play in midfield when you've got the movement in front of you like we had at Fulham.

"It makes our job so much easier when you've got three or four players making great runs when you're on the ball."
