Villas-Boas rules out busy transfer window
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas says he will make a maximum of two new signings in January.
With Bolton defender Gary Cahill expected to complete his move to Stamford Bridge imminently, Villas-Boas has suggested he could make one further signing, claiming he would rather wait until the summer to build his squad, when players offer better value for money.
Franck Ribery and Porto striker Hulk have been linked with Chelsea, but both players look unlikely to make the move in January. Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik's agent claimed his client would be interested in a move to Chelsea, while Genk star Kevin de Bruyne remains hopeful of securing a move to the Premier League.
"Apart from the central defender we might bring one more player in but we are not sure," Villas-Boas said on Sky Sports News.
Villas-Boas, who admitted his first six months at Chelsea had been "full of surprises", believes it is difficult for clubs to do business in January and as a result he is not setting his sights too high.
"It is always difficult," he said. "First top talent is normally cup tied in the Champions League or in different domestic competitions but it is difficult for the selling clubs to make players available.
"I think it is normal that you struggle in the transfer market. Normally it is a market where you overpay a lot and that's what we don't want to do now. So I think it's why we have set out not too high in transfer window."
