The excellent run of British men's doubles partnership Colin Fleming and Ross Hutchins is over after they were beaten by the top seeds on Sunday.

33953 - Fleming and Hutchins out of men's doubles

Fleming and Hutchins, seeded 15th in the competition, had produced some of the best tennis in the draw en route to the third round, where they were met by the prolific Bryan double-act. Bob and Mike Bryan are strong favourites to win the event, and they battled into the next round thanks to a 6-4 0-6 6-2 victory.

The Bryans are the world No. 1-ranked men's doubles team, a position they have occupied for over 270 weeks. Together they have won 76 titles, including five Australian Open crowns.

However, they were given a real scare when, having taken the first set, they were broken on three consecutive occasions. Fleming and Hutchins hit a purple patch that produced 15 winners in 24 minutes, but they could not maintain that momentum as the favourites advanced.

"The world's top eight is a huge goal," Fleming told BBC Radio 5 Live. "We will take a lot of positives from this, but now we have to look at how they managed to steal momentum at the start of the third set."

Hutchins added: "It was a decent display out there, especially in the second set, but we're of the belief that we're at a level to match the best teams in the world.

"We're good enough to win these matches. We have to learn how we can improve to go further next time and win a grand slam. That is what we want to do. It comes with experience and by working harder."
