Saha expecting Spurs goal rush
New signing Louis Saha is convinced it will not take him long to start banging in the goals for Tottenham.
Saha, a surprise surprise deadline day capture from Everton, may be thrown straight in to Spurs' starting XI for Monday's Premier League game at Liverpool after it emerged that the rest of the club's strike force has been ravaged by injury.
Top scorer Jermain Defoe is rated as "extremely doubtful'' for the clash at Anfield and Rafael van der Vaart (calf) and Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring) are also doubts after hobbling off during Tuesday's 3-1 win over Wigan.
Saha has already earned high praise from Tottenham assistant manager Kevin Bond for his performances in training, but the fact remains that the Frenchman is in desperately poor form on the pitch this season. The 33-year-old has scored just one league goal this term and failed to gain a regular first-team place at Everton, but he is confident he will start scoring more thanks to the support of a Tottenham squad which has dazzled him since he joined.
The former Manchester United striker said: "I like to score goals and I see many opportunities with the midfielders, the wingers, and the way the team plays here, so I just can't wait to get started.
"It's a very attacking side and they always look for movement of the striker. There is quality everywhere on the pitch, from the goalkeeper to the top. There is so much quality and confidence about the team's play, it's amazing.
"Adebayor and Van der Vaart are great players so I can't wait to play with them.''
When Saha was last plying his trade in London with Fulham in 2004, Tottenham ended the season in 14th place, some 45 points behind league winners and bitter local rivals Arsenal. But, after a renaissance under manager Harry Redknapp, Spurs are now enjoying their best league campaign in over half a century.
"It's amazing what the club have done over last few years and it's a great feeling to be part of that now,'' Saha said. I am really excited and can't wait to start. It's a really attractive club and the way they play is really enjoyable to watch.
"When everyone clicks, it's amazing. It's very hard to defend against Tottenham.''
