Ferrer & Isner set up Spain v US semi

Spain's David Ferrer and John Isner of the US picked up decisive victories for their countries during Sunday's Davis Cup World Group quarter-final action.

Ferrer conquered Jurgen Melzer 7-5 6-3 6-3 to hand Spain an unassailable 3-1 advantage against Austria, before Ferrer's team-mate Nicolas Almagro sank Alexander Peya 7-5 7-5 in the final rubber.

Spain will play the US at the semi-final stage following Isner's impressive victory over world No. 6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France.

Isner triumphed 6-3 7-6(4) 5-7 6-3 to give his nation an insurmountable 3-1 lead, before Gilles Simon restored a little pride for France by sinking Ryan Harrison 6-3 6-2.

Elsewhere, the Czech Republic booked their place in the last four when Tomas Berdych defeated Janko Tipsarevic 7-6(8) 7-6(8) 7-6(9).

They will now face last year's beaten finalists Argentina following Juan Martin del Potro's decisive 6-1 6-2 6-1 triumph against Marin Cilic of Croatia.
