There are over 200 countries in the world and each is unique in its own way. Some have access to the sea some don’t, some are very densely populated as Japan, India or China and some are extremely sparsely populated such as Mongolia or Central African Republic. There are countries that are spread on several continents such as Russia, which is the largest country in the world, Kazakhstan and Turkey. All in all, each state deserves to be given equal attention and to be equally respected. Russia, as already mentioned, with its surface area of 17,075,400 is the largest country in the world that takes days and days to be visited by car for example. But what would you say for the state for which you need only a few minutes to traverse by car through them and which are more reminiscent of the cities than the state. These are the smallest countries in the world that deserve equal attention as the largest ones.
1. Vatican
The Vatican is called a state within a state, and it’s smallest in the world. Vatican is a very specific country and attracts many tourists from around the world. Vatican is the seat of the Catholic Christian belief. The St. Peter’s Square, which is one of the most visited squares in the world ever, is located in the centre of Vatican. In this little country, a few times a year, the Pope is speaking to faithful people from the balcony. Vatican is located in the center of Rome, which is capital of Italy. The first association of people for this principality are Grace Kelly, Formula 1, casino and more. This principality on the south of France is one of the smallest countries after Vatican. It’s just a little bigger than the Vatican. But many call Monaco the European Manhattan, because there are too many people and skyscrapers for a tiny country of only 0.7 km. On that 0.7 km lives over 30 thousand people which is fascinating. Through this tiny country lies the path for Formula 1 and this little country was the home of Princess Grace Kelly, who was famous Hollywood diva before she became a princess. What makes this state a state is a city Monte Carlo where a famous casino is located and gamblers gather from all over the world. Monte Carlo has a beautiful coastline and is mainly targeted by the wealthiest people. Along its shores you can find expensive yachts. What’s also interesting is that this small principality gained independence in the 13th century.
3. Nauru
Despite being one of the smallest states in the world, Nauru is a specific state because it is the only country in the world that doesn’t have the capital city. It gained independence in 1968. Area of this state is 21 km and it has about 10,000 inhabitants. Nauru is an island located in the South Pacific, with beautiful beaches that attract tourists from all over the world. Generally, the largest population is concentrated along the coast, and the interesting thing is that, on this island there are no fix working hours for those who live here. So when we add sand beaches, tall palm trees, nice tempreture .. this is an island that can be called paradise on earth.
4. Tuvalu
Tuvalu is an island state which lies at exactly half way between Australia and Hawaii. Tuvalu consists of nine small islands, which are extremely low-lying in height. The tallest point on the island is only five meters above the sea. Tuvalu is comprised of 26 km and has about 13,000 inhabitants. The citizens of Tuvalu, on a referendum in 1978 voted for independence from Great Britain. What makes this country well-known is the internet domain, on which this state earned millions and millions since it was purchased by many of the world’s television networks.
5. San Marino
This state, although very little, is visited by tourists and is one of states with the highest standards. It is pleasant to live in it. In addition to its standards and three million tourists a year, this state is specific bacause San Marino is considered as the oldest state in the world. It is believed that San Marino was founded by Marin, who was a sculptor from the island Rabe, back in year of 301. State was named by stone-cutter state. San Marino is divided into nine small towns, each of which is on its hill. This state is really worth a visit, because on the whole country you can see well-preserved medieval fortresses which is why this state is called state-fortress.
6. Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is like San Marino, a very visited country with high living standards. This state is particularly well visited in the winter because there are many ski slopes and hotel complexes on its territory. Liechtenstein is comprised of 160 km and has about 34,000 inhabitants and the capital city is Vaduz. It stretches between Austria and Switzerland. The state is named after the dynasty of Liechtenstein, whose palace is one of the hallmarks of this small European country. In addition to this palace as one of the symbols of the Liechtenstein, are stamps, because in this little country there is a Post-stamps collection Museum that has the most valuable stamps.
7. Marshall Islands
On this list of smallest states there are many island countries. Among them are the Marshall Islands. It consists of 29 islands that are positioned in the central parts of the Pacific. The largest island is Kvajelin and the smallest one is Bikini. Area of this island state is 181 km, and this area is inhabited by little more than 58,000 inhabitants. This beautiful and very attractive Isles received independence from the United States in 1979. This Islander is rich with beautiful beaches and palm trees and it’s a very attractive destination. This Islander consists of atoll islands with interesting shapes and beautiful nature. Various specific forms oblong islands in particular. Marshall Islands are well known for Bikini island where the first nuclear bomb was tested by the United States.
8. Saint Kitts and Nevis
This state consists of two islands: Saint Kitts and Nevis. Area of this island state is 261 km² and the territory is inhabited by about 39,000 inhabitants. This Islander is also very frequented by tourists due to beautiful seas, shores and beaches.
Saint Kitts and Nevis belong to small Antilles in the Caribbean Sea and the thing is what this country is distinguished is that it’s the smallest country in the Western Hemisphere. The capital of Basseterre is located on the island of Saint Kitts. This state has won a state independence in the 1983rd year. These two islands are highly demanded tourist destinations.
9. Seychelles
Another top tourist destination is one of the smallest state of the world. Seychelles tourists visit from all over the world due to its attractiveness. It consists of 115 islands. This Islander is located in the warm Indian Ocean close to the black continent (Africa). The area of the Islander is 455 km ² and about 81,000 people inhabit this beautiful island. The capital city is Victoria, located on the island of Mahe. For Seychelles are very characteristic landscapes that we see in films, such as great beaches with white sand overlooked by palm trees risen high around the beach while you can see the picturesque cottages. Seychelles are among the top richest countries in Africa because they earn a lot from tourism.
10. Malta
Malta is an isle located in the Mediterranean Sea. Although Malta is geographically closer to Africa, this country still ranks among the states of Southern Europe. Malta and Monaco are (though much bigger than Monaco) small countries that are very densely populated. On the territory of 316 km² about 412,000 inhabitants live. In this state it’s very densed population, especially in the capital city Valletta. Malta is also a great tourist force because of its very beautiful capital city and because of the sea and beautiful beaches and the very favorable position in the Mediterranean Sea, and is located at the intersection of many roads. Malta is also famous for the so-called medical tourism. Across the country can be found many rehabilitation complexes that are well attended. What is also interesting to note, is that Malta is among the countries with the lowest crime rates. Therefore, this state is very attractive to live and go on vacation to. La Valletta is worth a visit for its beautiful streets and beautiful architecture. Malta gained independence in 1964 from Britain.
