"Mama Is a Sunrise"
When she comes slip-footing through the door,
she kindles us
like lump coal lighted,
and we wake up glowing.
She puts a spark even in Papa's eyes
and turns out all our darkness.
When she comes sweet-talking in the room,
she warms us
like grits and gravy,
and we rise up shining.
Even at nighttime Mama is a sunrise
that promises tomorrow and tomorrow.

Sunrise
I watched the dawn of the day
Waiting for the world to come out and play
The sunshine seeped over the unawakened earth
Soon to be a new re-birth
The flowers were still until the first breeze
They swayed gently with such ease
Birds flew high above my gaze
The shadows disappeared there was no haze
I watched the dawn of the day
Thy beauty took thy breath away.
Seven Tiles
Every morning, I'd lay about
the empty shore,
Waiting for the sun to rise.
A familiar sight, a beautiful
delight is that sun, I say!
Every morning as the sun rises,
I see a beauty of a lifetime.
Every evening as the sun sets,
I lose sight of the delicate thing.
Now here I lie, once again,
On the empty shore alone...
Waiting for the sun to rise.

SUNRISE
The grey begins to fade,
As colour creeps from leaf to limb.
The light is slowly seeping up,
From beneath the earth's curved rim.
The sky blue strengthens slowly,
Glazed with hues of orange and red.
Slowly as the earth revolves,
The sun lifts up it's head.
Colours shimmer in the light
And shapes begin to unveil.
The trees and flowers separate,
With the dawn light rosy and pale.
The sun climbs higher in the sky.
It's light shimmering and warm.
All things now are clearly seen.
A new day has been born
