West Indies in controversy before semis

The West Indies team found themselves in a controversy two days before their World Twenty20 semi-final against Australia when police arrested three women who, they say, had been guests of players at a Colombo hotel early on Wednesday morning. The women, all British nationals, were released on bail without being charged and the team management said the matter was now closed.

"Ministerial Security Division (MSD) guards assigned to protect the players carried out the arrest and the three women were handed over to the Kollupitiya police station for further investigations," a police statement, quoted by AFP, said.
The West Indies media manager, Philip Spooner, said the matter had been dealt with. "As far as the West Indies team is concerned there was an incident that was handled by the police," he told ESPNcricinfo. "It is being reported as a Chris Gayle issue. It is not a Chris Gayle issue. The matter was dealt with by the police and it is now closed. Our focus is strictly on cricket and our next assignment is the semi-finals on Friday."

Newzealand Coach Hesson criticises ICC on Super Over

"I can't work out why, in a non-elimination game, you have to have a Super Over. I've never worked that out,'' Hesson said. "We lost a couple of key moments. You know, we were two runs away from being top of the pool and being top qualifier, so there's a level of satisfaction there but I think every team that leaves the World Cup without the trophy's disappointed and we're no different."

"I have also never worked out how you can kick the stumps over and get a benefit. If that doesn't change they [the ICC] have got rocks in their head," Hesson said. "I'm not sure how they came to that conclusion. Basically we [all coaches and captains] came to a meeting pre-tournament and they told us what was happening. There wasn't a discussion.

"I don't blame Steven Finn but they've made one rule for one person. He also did it once [for a warning] but not twice against Sri Lanka. It would have been interesting to see the response if they had hit a boundary.''

Despite numerous uncertainties that have shrouded their cricket, Pakistan have made it to their sixth consecutive semi-final of an ICC tournament

Hafeez is just proud of what Pakistan have done. "For the past three years we have been away from our home grounds and home crowd," he said. "We are very much used to it now. It has been a very difficult time for our team. It is amazing and special what we have been able to achieve despite all that, and credit should go to all players and the management."

Pakistan have had since the 2007 World Cup: Shoaib Malik, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Salman Butt, Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Hafeez. Seven captains.
