Mohammad Hafeez has backed his premier fast bowler, Umar Gul, to put in a big performance

"He realises when he is not doing the basics right," Hafeez said. "The good thing from what we can see is that he is very focused and working hard in practice. Bowling coach Mohammad Akram is working with him. We know he is our match-winner.

"Pitches in the group matches were really good for batting. Our bowlers tried hard to get something out of them but sometimes you can have an off day. Anyone can have an off day, anyone can bowl badly. But with the positive attitude among our bowlers, I am confident they can return to rhythm soon."
Pakistan played both their group games in Pallekele but Hafeez said that with the side having experience of playing in Colombo, the change of venue for the Super Eights would not make much difference. "I know the conditions will change from Kandy to Colombo, adjustability will be a factor. We have played enough here in Colombo, we know the conditions well."

Dhoni: Toughest decision of my life

MS Dhoni will have to bite the bullet and choose from among Sehwag and Yuvraj against Australia.

We would most likely go in with five bowlers but I still don't know what the combination will be,” Dhoni said at the R Premadasa Stadium here on Thursday.” It will be a fresh pitch and we have to take into consideration how it will be before the start of the match."

Asked how he would approach the decision of dropping one of the two batsmen, the skipper was candid. "It is one of the toughest decisions I have taken so far.
“We will have to see what fits the combinations. Just wait and watch. Ultimately the decision we take has to be a good one that benefits the team.”

'Bring in Razzaq instead of Tanvir' Says Akhtar

Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has advised the team management to replace the struggling Sohail Tanvir with the experienced Abdul Razzaq.
"I think it would not be a bad idea to bring in Razzaq instead of Tanvir he can use the new ball cunningly and he will strengthen the batting as well. Razzaq is also good enough to bowl two to three overs the same number of overs Tanvir is bowling in the tournament," Shoaib said.

Shoaib, who retired last year during the 50-over World Cup, also praised the performance of Yasir Arafat.

"I have told him in Twenty20 cricket mixing up deliveries and using the bouncer effectively are important weapons for any pace bowler."

He also felt that if Pakistan won the toss they should opt to chase against South Africa on Friday as they had gained confidence while chasing big totals.

"I say go with the flow."

Shoaib also advised Imran Nazir to play proper cricket shots instead of being over-ambitious.

Pakistan's former Test batsman and the ex-coach Mohsin Khan advised the team to think about changing their pace line-up.

"I think it would be better if Umar Gul is allowed the choice of bowling his overs in the middle of the innings with an older ball as he is most deadly when he starts get reverse swing," Mohsin said.

Mohsin also felt that Pakistan selectors have the option of using Mohammad Sami with the new ball instead of Gul and also replacing Tanvir with Razzaq.

He said Pakistan's bowling would have to be very disciplined in the Super Eights as South Africa, India and Australia had dangerous batting line-ups.

"You can't chase targets of 160 plus everyday. It is too much pressure on the batsmen."

Bailey wary of spin against India

We don't want to focus too heavily on one bowler. It's not that we focus too much on Harbhajan and don't focus on Ashwin. All the Indian bowlers are pretty good and we respect that fact," said Bailey at the pre-match media conference ahead of India-Australia Super Eights match of World Twenty20.

The Tasmanian batsman though conceded that spin was becoming an important factor in the context of the tournament.

"Certainly, spin has become a very important factor as the pitches will get slower and lower as the tournament progresses. But we have a pretty good line-up of fast bowlers and would like to exploit whatever is available," said Bailey.

The 30-year-old skipper believes that the team that has the 'x-factor' will emerge victorious as it requires a bit of flair to excel in a marquee game like India versus Australia.

"You need to show a bit of flair and at the same time be a bit conservative. Ultimately, the team that has more number of players with x-factor will end up on the winning side."

Bailey, who has spent a lot of time in the Chennai Super Kings' dug-out during his stint with the IPL franchise, said that he has learnt a lot from his captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
