Sri Lanka, England fined for slow over-rate

Sri Lanka have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their nine-wicket win over West Indies in the Super Eights clash at Pallekele on Saturday. The penalty comes just hours after England were found guilty of the same offence during their match against New Zealand at the same venue.
The match referee Javagal Srinath found both captains, Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) and Stuart Broad (England), to be one over short of the target after taking allowances into consideration. The captains were fined 20% of their respective match fees while their team-mates were docked 10% each.

South Africa eye early spin option against Australia
COLOMBO (Reuters) - Switching to spinners in the power play will not be a bad gameplan against Australia on a turning wicket, South Africa captain A.B. de Villiers said ahead of their World Twenty20 Super Eight clash on Sunday.
South Africa are in a must-win situation to keep their hopes for a semi-final berth alive after they lost a hard-fought game to Pakistan by two wickets on Friday.
Left arm spinner Robin Peterson struck with two wickets when de Villiers brought him on in the fourth over of the match against Pakistan.
"It worked really well for us and it's definitely a different approach and we haven't been doing it in the past," de Villiers told reporters ahead of the Colombo match.
"It's a very positive thing for us to bowl spinners in the first six overs and then we have seen the results come through like that.
"It is something to look at specially on this kind of wickets if it's turning a bit. Against the Australians, it's not a bad game plan."
However, de Villiers still hopes his fast bowlers can also deliver with wickets.
"We won't forget our pacemen who are on top of the world. Still I hope they will come back and take wickets against the Australians," he said.
Australia are unbeaten in the tournament and captain George Bailey said they have got a buffer after winning Friday's game against India by nine wickets.
"I know it is a great win, but in terms of just where it has set this up in this tournament it has put South Africa under pressure because they know they need to win their next two. We have that buffer," Bailey told reporters.
"Our best cricket has always been very, very good. The challenge in Twenty20 has been that gap between our best and the worst cricket. That's been the pleasing thing for me as we have been consistent so far."

'Disappointed' Peterson backs Proteas to bounce back in T20 WC
Colombo, Sep 29 (ANI): South Africa spinner Robin Peterson has said they are disappointed with their two-wicket loss to Pakistan in their first game of the Super Eight stage of the Twenty20 World Cup, but backed his team to win their next two matches against Australia and India to proceed to the semifinals.
Peterson, whose exceptional bowling figures of 2/15 in four overs were for a losing cause, is counting on his teammates to make an impact in their last two matches.
"We have to win our final two matches, it's as simple as that," Sports24 quoted Peterson, as saying.
"We are obviously disappointed by the result but we still have two games to go. We know what we are capable of when we fire as a unit and that is what we will be aiming for in our next two matches," he added.
Peterson and Dale Steyn (3/22) were the top bowlers for the Proteas, with inconsistency in execution letting the team down in the dying overs, after Pakistan struggled to 76 for seven.

Pakistan seek to nudge India towards exit
    000 Del6149888 jpg 110236 - *ICC World T20 Srilanka 2012*
Pakistan will look to extend their dominant form and put India on the brink of elimination when the old foes clash in the World Twenty20 on Sunday.

Pakistan have never beaten India in either the 50-over World Cup or the World Twenty20, but Mohammad Hafeez's men start as favourites in the much-awaited Super Eights game in Colombo.
Pakistan are the team in form, winning both matches in the preliminary league before stunning top-ranked South Africa by two wickets in their first Super Eights game on Friday.
In contrast, Australia annihilated India by nine wickets later the same evening, leaving Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men needing to beat Pakistan and South Africa to stay in contention for the semi-finals.
But if Australia beat South Africa and Pakistan defeat India in Sunday's double-header, both winners will advance to the semi-finals from what was billed as the "group of death".
Pakistan seamer Umar Gul, an unlikely hero with the bat against South Africa with a power-packed 32 off 17 balls, said: "When we play India there is lot of pressure because our people always want us to win.
"The same is the case in India, so there will be pressure on both teams.
"Anything can happen. We will give it our best shot. India is a very good team, but we know each other's strong and weak points. In T20 it all depends on how a team plays on that day."
