South Africa defeats Australia in Perth test
PERTH: South Africa has defeated Australia in the Perth test.
South Africa stated its second inning at 227 three out on the last day of the match being played at the western Australia Ground, when it required further 187 runs for the win. Yak Kellas and ABD Valliers have taken the score to 303 and J.P. Dev Mani in 111 partnership clinched victory for the team. D Valliers at 106, while Dev Mani at 50 remained not out. South Africa has earned the honour of achieving the history’s second big target. The biggest target achieving honour lied with the West Indies, when in May 2003, it had achieved the target of 418 against England.
Australian team’s graph fading after Tim Nielsen became coach
SYDNEY: Following Tim Nielsen taking over as coach, Australian team’s graph is on the wane, yet the Australian Board has appointed Tim Nielsen as coach until World Cup 2011.
Cricket Australia had made an agreement with coach Tim Nielsen until Ashes 2009, which has been extended until 2011 due to his performance satisfactory to the Cricket Australia.
Tim Nielsen, 40 had taken over the charge of the coach from John Buchanan after World Cup 2007. Cricket Australia Chief Executive, James Sutherland said that he has been given this key-responsibility in view of his experience and added presently there was no better choice than him for coach.
Dream of winning series against Australia can be fulfilled: Arthur
MELBOURNE: South African coach Mickey Arthur said that despite winning the first Test South Africa have to fully focus their attention towards the series and only then the dream of winning the series against Australia can be fulfilled.
The second Test between Australia and South Africa is beginning from Friday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
South Africa is leading the three-Test series 1-0.
South African coach Mickey Arthur said that his players are in good form and are much satisfied after defeating Australia.
However, the whole team has to work hard to beat Australia in the series.
Australia-South Africa 2nd Test from tomorrow
MELBOURNE: The second Test match between Australia and South Africa will begin tomorrow at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The touring team is leading the three-Test series 1-0.
Australia have made two changes for the second Test – fast bowler Peter Siddle and off-spinner Nathan Hauritz have been included in the team.
Captain Ricky Ponting said that 2008 has been the most difficult year for his team and he wants the year be ended on a fine note, thus all players have to improve their performance.
South Africa had defeated Australia by four wickets in the first Test of the series.

Ponting hits ton as Aussies make 280-6 against SA
MELBOURNE: Ricky Ponting played a captain’s innings in a bid to level the series but South Africa grabbed six wickets to restrict the Aussies to 280 by the end of the first day of the second Test here on Friday.
Simon Katich and Ponting added 107 runs after opener Matthew Hayden (8) fell at 21 but later Australia began to lose wickets at regular intervals.
However, Ponting played a classy innings of 101 off 126 balls. It was his 37th Test hundred, his fourth at the MCG. He occupied the crease for 203 minutes and hit ten fours and a six.
Katich made 54 runs, Brad Haddin scored 40 and Andrew Symonds contributed 27 while Michael Hussey got out for a duck.
When the play ended, Michael Clarke was batting on 36 while Brett Lee was yet to open his account.
For South Africa, Dale Steyn and Makhaya Ntini claimed two wickets each while Morne Morkel and Paul Harris took one wicket each.
