PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: Ramnaresh Sarwan hit 59 from 46 balls to propel West Indies to a six-wicket victory over England in their Twenty20 International at Queen's Park Oval on Sunday.
England were bowled out for just 121 in 19.1 overs after they were sent in to bat, and West Indies replied strongly with 123 for four from 18 overs.
England, who have already lost the Test series, were undermined by disciplined West Indies bowling and alert fielding which accounted for three run outs.
International newcomer Steven Davies led the way for England with 27 from 21 balls and Strauss scored 22 from 25 balls.
But England's innings never got into gear, and they lost their last four wickets for seven runs in the space 14 balls.
Spinner Sulieman Benn took three for 24 from four overs to be the leading West Indies bowler.
After Ravi Bopara was bowled by Lionel Baker in the fourth over, England, thanks to Davies, raced to 55 for one in the eighth over.
But Davies and Kevin Pietersen were dismissed in successive overs, and England failed to keep the tempo alive.
Their effort was not helped when Dimitri Mascarenhas, Strauss, and Gareth Batty were all needlessly run out.
Stuart Broad removed Andre Fletcher in the second over to give England a bright start when they took to the field.
But stalwarts Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul carried West Indies to 45 for one in the fifth over.
James Anderson had Chanderpaul caught at square cover before Lendl Simmons and Sarwan put West Indies firmly on course with a stand of 60 for the third wicket.
Amjad Khan removed Sarwan in the 16th over and had Dwayne Bravo caught at mid-wicket two overs later before Kieron Pollard sealed the victory, when he swung a short, rising ball from the same bowler through mid-wicket for four.
The two teams will now contest a five-match one-day international series with matches in Guyana (March 20 and 22), Barbados (March 27 and 29), and St. Lucia (April 3).
England beat West Indies by one run in first ODI
GUYANA: England defeated the West Indies by one run, under the Duckworth-Lewis method, in the first one-day international at the Guyana National Stadium here on Friday in a game which ended in farce.
The West Indies were 244-7 in the 47th over when their Australian coach John Dyson called in his batsmen, who had been offered the light, believing that his men were ahead on the run-rate required under the D/L method.
However, the home side were a run short of the target. After lengthy discussions, and with both teams having celebrated victory, England were declared the winners of the first of a five-match series.
Uncapped Barbados batsman Dale Richards and Trinidad fast bowler Ravi Rampaul have been included in the West Indies squad for the third and fourth one-day internationals against England.
Richards, an opening batsman, replaced Devon Smith who did not play in either of the first two ODIs. He was also in the squad for the first Test against England but had to withdraw because of a foot injury.
Rampaul replaced the Daren Powell who has been out of form during the contests against England. Powell took only six wickets in the five-Test series at nearly 70 apiece and took 1 for 27 in five overs in the first ODI. Rampaul, who had played 30 ODIs, last appeared for West Indies on the tour of South Africa in early 2008.
The five-ODI series between West Indies and England is currently level at 1-1. The third game is in Barbados on March 27.
Squad: Chris Gayle (capt), Denesh Ramdin (wk), Lionel Baker, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards, Nikita Miller, Keiron Pollard, Ravi Rampaul, Dale Richards, Darren Sammy, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Lendl Simmons.

W.Indies grab 8-wkt win over England in ODI
BRIDGETOWN: Captain Chris Gayle led West Indies to a crushing eight-wicket victory as the hosts matched England''s feeble total of 117 in fewer than 15 overs in a rain-affected third one-dayer in Barbados on Friday.
Gayle smashed eight sixes and five fours as he scored 80 in43 balls to put his team 2-1 up in the five-match series.
Rain initially reduced the game to 44 overs per side before the West Indies target was later adjusted to 117 on the Duckworth-Lewis method. After being put in to bat England threw their wickets away with a succession of loose pull and hook shots as they slumped to 68 for eight.
After the top order failed to make an impression former captain Kevin Pietersen, who complained of homesickness in an interview on Thursday, swiped Dwayne Bravo''s first ball straight to mid-wicket and was out for three.
Andrew Flintoff, back in action after a month out through injury, went for a duck when he hooked a simple catch to Fidel Edwards off Bravo.
The wickets continued to tumble and when Stuart Broad was caught behind for a duck England were 68 for eight, 18 short of their lowest one-day score of 86 against Australia at Old Trafford, Manchester in 2001.
However Dimitri Mascarenhas and Gareth Batty steadied the ship as they took the tourists past their previous worst score against West Indies, 114 on the same ground 23 years ago.
Both then fell in quick succession, Mascaren has top-scoring with 36, as England were bowled out in the 42nd over with all-rounder Bravo taking four for 19 and paceman Edwards three for 28.
Proof that bad batting rather than a bad pitch was behind England''s paltry total was not long in coming as Gayle set about his task with gusto.
The left-hander took 24 off one Mascaren has over, including three huge sixes, as West Indies raced to 84 for nought off eight overs.
Gayle was eventually bowled by James Anderson and Ramnaresh Sarwan was bowled by Broad for 10, leaving Lendl Simmons and Shivnarine Chanderpaul to knock off the last few runs. The fourth match in Barbados is on Sunday.

England beat West Indies, clinch ODI series
GROS ISLET: England beat West Indies by 26 runs to win the fifth and final one-day international here on Friday and clinch the series 3-2.
Andrew Flintoff grabbed a hat-trick as West Indies, chasing 173 to win, were bowled out for 146 with an over to spare in a game reduced to 29 overs a side after rain had delayed the start at the Beausejour stadium.
It was England''s first limited overs series win in the Caribbean.
"It''s been a long, hard tour and it''s very special to come out of it with a win. We''ve worked very hard," said England captain Andrew Strauss whose side lost the Test series.
West Indies skipper Chris Gayle said: "It''s unfortunate we lost but I have to have give England credit. It was a good wicket to bat on but they bowled well.
