Default Pak-NZ test series to unveil review system

Pak-NZ test series to unveil review system

WELLINGTON: New Zealand''s three Test series against Pakistan starting next week will be used to unveil a controversial new system to review umpire''s decisions, officials said.

The umpire decision review system (UDRS) will use ball-tracking technology developed in New Zealand for the first time to review umpires'' decisions.

"It''s exciting that the new decision review system will be up and running for this Test series," said New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan.

"This will be the first series in the international calendar to use the new UDRS -- it''s an important advance for international cricket."

The system allows the third umpire to use ball-tracking and other available technology to review umpires'' decisions as requested by players. Each team is allowed to make two unsuccessful player review requests in each innings.

The introduction of UDRS worldwide has been delayed because some countries have decided against it for now because of player concerns and disagreements on who should pay for the technology.

The first Test between New Zealand and Pakistan starts on Tuesday and Australia will also use the system during their three-Test series, starting on Thursday next week in Brisbane.
