McCullum ton helps NZ amass 303-8 against Pakistan
ABU DHABI: Opener Brendon McCullum smashed a brilliant hundred to help New Zealand pile up huge 303-8 against Pakistan in the second One-day International here at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Friday.
Winning the toss, New Zealand batted first and set Pakistan a difficult target of 304 runs in 50 overs.
McCullum made 131 from 129 balls with 14 boundaries and three sixes. This was his second hundred in his 162 ODIs.
He was well supported by Martin Guptill, who scored 62 with five fours and two sixes. Both made together 126 runs for the second wicket partnership.
Other main contributors were Jacob Oram (33 not out )and captain Daniel Vettori (30).
For Pakistan, spinner Shahid Afridi, pacers Umar Gul and Abdul Razzaq claimed two wickets each while Mohammad Aamer took one wicket.
Pakistan brought back middle-order batsman Shoaib Malik who replaced young batsman Umer Akmal.
Malik was rested in the first match on Tuesday which Pakistan won by 138 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Paceman Kyle Mills returned for New Zealand after missing the first match due to a sore shoulder as one of two changes in the side. Also included was Neil Broom with Ian Butler and Nathan McCullum dropped.
