Default Black Caps all out for 429 in 1st innings

Black Caps all out for 429 in 1st innings

DUNEDIN: Mohammed Asif claimed his fourth wicket as Pakistan quickly mopped up the New Zealand tail at the start of day three of the first Test in Dunedin.

With the Black Caps resuming on 404 for eight, Asif and Saeed Ajmal removed the last two wickets to dismiss the hosts for 429 in their opening innings.

Shane Bond, returning to the crease on eight, managed to take his score to 22 before Asif struck with a deceptive ball which the New Zealander edged to wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal.

His replacement Chris Martin then followed eight balls later, trapped leg before wicket by Ajmal.

Iain O''Brien was the last man standing for the hosts having added 11 runs to his overnight score of two, while Asif was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers with four for 108.

Default Akmal brothers lead Pakistan revival

    Akmal brothers lead Pakistan revival

DUNEDIN: Pakistan were 307-8 at stumps on the third day of the first cricket test against New Zealand at University Oval in Dunedin, a first innings deficit of 122.

Umar Akmal, 19, top scored with 129 - the 11th Pakistani to make a hundred on debut - while Shane Bond marked his return to test cricket with 4-93 from 24 overs.

Umar''s elder brother Kamran made 82 as the pair added 176 for the sixth wicket.

Mohammad Aamer (12) and Mohammad Asif (0) continue batting tomorrow.

Pakistan rallied in the afternoon session, with brothers Umar and Kamran Akmal leading the revival.

The pair came together with Pakistan reeling at 85-5 and put on 176 for the sixth wicket, with Kamran Akmal making 82 before being caught by Ross Taylor off Daniel Vettori with the score at 261.

Debutant Umar Akmal reached 129 before he was caught by Peter Fulton in the deep, to become Shane Bond''s fourth victim of the innings. Pakistan were 293-7 nearing stumps on day three.

A fired up Shane Bond helped New Zealand continue to put the heat on Pakistan in the cricket test in Dunedin.

Bond marked his return to test cricket with three wickets from a fiery spell in the middle session of the third.

That left Pakistan 160-5 in reply to New Zealand''s first innings total of 429.

The quick bowlers were enjoying the spoils on a good wicket still offering them some help.

Chris Martin claimed both wickets to have the tourists 43-2 just before lunch.

But it was Bond who provided the breakthrough in dramatic fashion in the middle session.

He had Mohammad Yousuf mistime a drive back to him. Bond dived forward and low to haul in the catch.

He then showed the value of his pace as he had the troublesome Falad Alam caught behind and immediately cleaned out Shoaib Malik.

Umar Akmal was fighting to consolidate things for Pakistan, unbeaten on 55.

Earlier the Black Caps had resumed their first innings at 404-8 but lost their two remaining wickets in the first 40 minutes. Shane Bond was out for 22,l caught behind off the bowling of Mohammad Asif. Martin lasted just five balls before he was dismissed for yet another duck, lbw to Saeed Ajmal. Iain O''Brien was left 13 not out.

Default Dunedin Test: Pakistan all out for 332

Dunedin Test: Pakistan all out for 332

DUNEDIN: Pakistan have been dismissed for 332 in their first innings early on the fourth day of the first cricket Test against New Zealand at University Oval in Dunedin, giving the home side a 97-run advantage.

Pakistan resumed on 8-307 and lost overnight batsmen Mohammad Asif for 10 and Mohammad Aamer for 26, with Saeed Ajmal left not out on one.

Playing his first test for two years, fast bowler Shane Bond took the final wicket to fall to end with figures of five for 107, his fifth five-wicket Test haul.

Umar Akmal top-scored for Pakistan with 129 on debut, the 11th Pakistani batsman to achieve that feat.

Ross Taylor and Tim McIntosh were repairing the early damage to New Zealand''s second innings of the cricket tests against Pakistan in Dunedin.

At lunch on the fourth day New Zealand were 68-2 with Taylor on 48 and McIntosh on 14.

The Black Caps had started the day in good fashion by claiming the last two Pakistan wickets to dismiss the tourists for 332, giving New Zealand a first innings lead of 97.

But that immediately looked vulnerable when Mohammad Aamer removed Martin Guptill and Daniel Flynn without a run on the board.

He bowled Guptill with the fourth ball of the innings and then trapped Flynn lbw.

Taylor and McIntosh clawed their way back.

Taylor was in plenty of trouble early on but kept his cool to soak up plenty of pressure and eventually found his strokes.

McIntosh, who had a first ball duck in the first innings, was resolute as he helped New Zealand to an overall lead of 165 with eight wickets left.

Earlier Shane Bond claimed another five-wicket haul. Pakistan stared the day at 307-8 but the Kiwi pacemen didn''t take long to mop up the innings.

Chris Martin had Mohammad Asif caught in the slips by Tim McIntosh after just 13 runs had been added.

Then Bond had Aamer caught by skipper Daniel Vettori.

That gave Bond, marking his return to test cricket after an absence of two years, his fourth five wicket haul in 17 tests. He finished with 5-107.

Default New Zealand reeling on 147-8 in 2nd innings

New Zealand reeling on 147-8 in 2nd innings

DUNEDIN: Fiery bowling by Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir brought Pakistan back in the game as new Zealand were reeling on 147 runs for eight wickets at stumps on the fourth day of the first Test match here on Friday.

However, New Zealand have an overall lead by 244 runs by the virtue of the first innings lead of 97 runs.

Earlier in the morning, Pakistan resumed their first innings at 307 for eight wickets but could add only 25 runs and all out for 332.

For New Zealand, Shane Bond captured five wickets.

The Kiwis began their second innings with a good lead of 97 runs but they lost their early two wicket without making any score as young fast bowler Mohammad Aamir dismissed Martin Guptill and Daniel Flynn for nought.

Later, Ross Taylor and McIntosh tried to repair the damage and made together 87 runs for the third wicket before Taylor was brilliantly run out by Khurram Manzoor.

Then, wickets began to fall at regular intervals and when the play abandoned due to rain the Kiwis were 147 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

Asif claimed four and Aamir took two wickets while Umar Gul got one wicket.

Tomorrow will be the last day of the match.

Default Black Caps set Pakistan 251 to win

Black Caps set Pakistan 251 to win

DUNEDIN: Pakistan requires 251 runs to win the first cricket test against New Zealand after dismissing the home side for 153 in their second innings early on the final day here at University Oval.

Resuming on 147 for eight, New Zealand lost Iain O''Brien on his overnight score of four and Grant Elliott for 25.

Umar Gul took both wickets to end with figures of three for 41. Fellow pace bowler Mohammad Asif took four for 43 to finish with a match analysis of eight for 151 in his first test for more than two years.

New Zealand''s last two wickets could add only six runs to their overnight lead and left Pakistan 251 to chase in 91 possible overs. Pakistan fast bowlers were on the money again, and scoring those six runs too took 5.1 overs and hard work.

An exciting finish to an exciting Test was in the offing: previously only thrice had more than 250 been chased successfully in New Zealand.

Umar Gul finished the tail off clinically. He set Iain O''Brien up with three back-to-back bouncers - one of which hit him in the helmet - and then delivered the full, knockout delivery. Grant Elliott looked to farm strike, but when he went for a pull to the last ball of a Gul over, he gloved it down the leg side.

The only consolation for New Zealand in that brief period of play was that Chris Martin finally got a run against Pakistan, after six ducks.

Default Pakistan lose to Kiwis by narrow margin

Pakistan lose to Kiwis by narrow margin

DUNEDIN: Despite a brilliant effort by debutant Umer Akmal Pakistan surrendered to New Zealand in the last session of the first Test match here on Saturday.

Pakistan chasing 251 to win were all out for 218 and lost the match by a narrow margin of 32 runs to give New Zealand a 1-0 lead in the three-Test series.

Umer Akmal, who scored a hundred on Test debut in the first innings, again played a heroic innings of 75 in an effort to lead his team to victory but fast bowler Shane Bond shattered his dream of becoming only the third batsman to score a century in each innings on his first Test appearance.

Pakistan lost three early wickets for only 24 runs when Umer came at the crease. He stood between New Zealand and victory for almost two sessions and walked back with a broken heart as his team was 56 runs away from winning the match.

He was well supported by his captain Mohammad Yousuf (41), allrounder Shoaib Malik (32) and his elder brother wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal (27).

He added 71 with Yousuf for the fourth wicket, 66 with Malik for the fifth and 34 with Kamran for the sixth wicket.

As soon Umer departed Pakistan began to collapse and gave away the remaining four wickets for only 23 runs.

Bond and O’Brien captured three wickets each while Martin and Vettori claimed two wickets each.

Earlier, Pakistan seamers skittled out the Black Caps for 153 but were set a target of 251 runs by the virtue of the first innings lead of 97 runs.

Mohammad Asif bagged four wickets, Umer Gul three and Mohammad Aamer two for 43, 41 and 29 runs, respectively.

Default 2nd Pakistan-New Zealand Test to be played from De

2nd Pakistan-New Zealand Test to be played from Dec 3

WELLINGTON: Pakistan team with a loss in one Test match is facing problems regarding practice due to bad weather

The second Test of the three-match series between New Zealand and Pakistan will be played from December 3 in Wellington.

The biggest problem for Pakistan is the continuous rain in Wellington due to which the team could not get a proper chance of practicing.

Thus, the Pakistan team participated in indoor practice session.

Talking with Geo News from Wellington, team manager Abdul Raqeeb said that the team would practice tomorrow at that ground of Wellington where Test match would be played and in case of rain the team may be deprived of practice as there is no practice facility at this venue.

He told that Misbah-ul-Haq could not take part in the indoor training session as he arrived late. He will practice with the team on Tuesday.

Misbah’s playing the second Test could not so far be decided.

Default Injured Bond ruled out of Pakistan series

Injured Bond ruled out of Pakistan series

WELLINGTON: Shane Bond''s Test comeback has lasted just one match after New Zealand''s premier pace bowler was ruled out of the remainder of the current series against Pakistan because of an abdominal tear.

Bond reported discomfort in the aftermath of his man-of-the-match performance during the Black Caps'' 32-run victory in the first Test at Dunedin last week.

He had scans this morning that confirmed a tear, a recurrence of the injury that affected him when he last played in the Test arena in 2007.

Bond, who spent some time in the international wilderness because of a brief playing spell in rebel Indian Cricket League, took match figures of 8 for 153 in Dunedin.

The 34-year-old will miss the second Test starting in Wellington on Thursday and the final match at Napier beginning December 11.
