KARACHI: Pakistan women’s kabaddi team created history by marching into the semi-finals of the World Cup in their maiden appearance, beating Mexico 49-24 in their last Group-B match in Jalalabad, India on Tuesday.
They needed a win to proceed into the last-four as they were level with England on two points, with the difference that Pakistan had a game in hand whereas England had played all three of their matches.
After the match, Pakistan ended up with four points from their three matches to set-up a date with arch rivals India in the semi-final.
The team was placed in Group B along with the other semi-finalists Denmark, England and Mexico.
Pakistan showed promise right from the start as they were narrowly beaten by group leaders Denmark 45-39 in the opening match, while the team bounced back against England in their second match by winning 41-30.
Meanwhile, Pakistan men’s team will play their semi-final today against the US to seal a place in the final.
The men in green are gunning to become World Champions this time around; they lost the final of the last World Cup to India.
