Australian cricket side cancels tour to India

SYDNEY: Cricket's multi-million dollar Twenty-20 Champions League has been thrown into jeopardy by the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Victoria and Western Australia had qualified for the tournament and the teams were due to fly out in the next few days.

The Victorian side was booked to stay at the Taj hotel, where Westerners are reportedly being held hostage and a large fire has broken out.

Cricket Victoria's Eivion Bowen said the team's participation is now in doubt.

"Yes, we were due to book into the Taj with some officials due to fly over tomorrow and the bulk of the team due to go over there on Saturday," he said.

"We're awaiting advice from the government and also Cricket Australia and their security personnel and we're just sifting through the facts at the moment and trying to work out how that affects our guys and obviously trying to ensure the safety of anybody who does in fact go over."
