KARACHI: Defending champions KRL registered a 4-0 win in their Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) tie against Baloch FC Noushki in Lahore on Thursday. Striker Saddam Hussain scored a hat-trick to give his side their 12th win of the season.
Hussain scored the opening goal in the 33rd minute as KRL led 1-0 at the interval. He pummeled the Baloch FC defence again and doubled the lead in the 58th minute.
Shahid Nabi also contributed with his goal for KRL in the 67th minute, while Hussain sealed victory with his third goal of the day in the 75th.
KRL were the last team to begin the league in October due to their international matches at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup.
However, they have caught up with table leaders KESC, Wapda and PAF after playing 19 matches, moving to fourth spot as they replaced PIA with 41 points to their credit. Meanwhile, Baloch FC slumped to 15th position amongst 16 teams with 18 points.
KRL have been touted as the strongest team in the competition — they have a squad with most national players.
“Every team will look towards us as their biggest competition,” KRL coach Tariq Lutfi told The Express Tribune. “Ever since we became the President’s Cup finalists in September, the competition has grown tougher.”
In the second match of the day, debutants Lyallpur FC held Navy 1-1 in a draw.
