KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has accepted the resignation of former captain Javed Miandad who decided to quit as the director general of the governing body earlier this month.
The decision was taken in the second meeting of the PCB’s Managing Committee (MC) held on Thursday at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. The PCB chairman Najam Sethi chaired the meeting.
“Members have respected Javed Miandad’s wishes by accepting his resignation with immediate effect,” read the PCB statement to elaborate the excerpts of the meeting.
“The MC recognised and applauded Miandad’s achievements, contributions, and services not only to the PCB but also to the game of cricket.”
Miandad sent his resignation to the chairman citing the turmoil within the PCB reasons behind his resignation. The PCB Patron Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif removed Zaka Ashraf as chairman and formed the managing committee that later ‘elected’ Najam Sethi as head the board.
PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed while speaking to the media in Lahore said the post of the director general has been abolished.
Committee formed to align PCB’s Constitution
Meanwhile, in another major development the MC approved the formation of the committee to align the PCB’s Constitution, which Sethi termed as his prime objective after returning as the chairman.
The Committee comprises of former Supreme Court judges including Jus. R. Jamshaid Ali Shah and Jus. R. Faqir Muhammad Khokhar. PCB’s legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi will assist the committee.
The members have agreed to continue the consultation process with various stakeholders for PCB’s stance on the International Cricket Council’s reforms.
In a positive move, the MC also unanimously adopted a policy to have at least 5% quota for women, minorities, and the physically challenged (cumulatively) in PCB’s administrative staff.
