Bigg Boss baba in trouble as Delhi court fines him for non-appear
Controversial godman Omji Maharaj, a contestant in popular reality show Bigg Boss, has been told by a Delhi court to appear before it on November 21.
The summon could mean eviction for Omji from the show that locks away contestants in a house at an undeclared location without any contact with the outside world.
The appearance notice was issued on a plea by Omji’s brother Pramod Jha.
Vinodanand Jha, known as Om ji Maharaj, was supposed to appear in the court on Tuesday but he stayed on in the show. The Saket court chief metropolitan magistrate also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on him for non-appearance.
The quantum of the fine was Rs 10,000 initially but when Omji’s counsel requested to reduce the amount, the court asked, “Bigg Boss is more important or court?”
Pramod’s lawyer, Saroj Kumar Jha, said, “The Saket court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him and asked him to appear on Tuesday. The court has now asked him to appear on November 21, failing which a fresh non-bailable warrant may be issued against him.”
The case dates to November 2008 when Pramod had accused Omji of breaking the lock of his bicycle shop along with three men and stealing 11 bicycles, spare parts, sale deed of the house and some other documents.
The self-proclaimed godman was earlier booked under the Arms Act, Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act too.
He was in the news after a woman astrologer slapped him on a television news show during a debate.
Delhi’s Patiala House courts too had issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him earlier. He was accused of rampage during a protest. An FIR was lodged against him at the Chankayapuri police station.
Colors, the channel that broadcasts Bigg Boss, said they are not aware of the development. “If the police contacts us, the channel will discuss the matter with its legal team and take action according to the law of the land,” a channel official said.
