Pakistan-Bangladesh fourth ODI tomorrow
MULTAN: Pakistan and Bangladesh are playing their fourth One-Day International tomorrow (Wednesday) at Multan Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan is already 3-0 ahead of Bangladesh with decisive lead.
The teams of both sides have arrived here. Bangladesh team participated in the practice session today’s morning; while, Pakistan will have net-practice session this evening.
Both the captains today will hold press conference, as well.
Pakistan squad has Fast Bowler Mohammed Asif, who is playing international cricket after at least six months.
The Multan ODI is feared to get affected with the rain forecasted for today. The spell of downpours is in progress for a couple of days in the city.
The day-night match will start at 3pm.
Bangladesh look to captain Ashraful for consolation
MULTAN: Bangladesh coach Jamie Siddons urged captain Mohammad Ashraful to start firing and help the tourists achieve a consolation win in the fourth day-night one-day
international here on Wednesday.
Pakistan have an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series but Siddons said his side can still test the hosts provided all the batsmen, including Ashraful, rediscover some form.
"I am concerned about Ashraful's performances. As captain of the team, he needs to perform and score," said Siddons of Ashraful who has scores of nine, 22 and 16 in the series.
Bangladesh lost the first two matches by 152 runs and seven wickets respectively before they gave Pakistan a run for their money in the third match in Lahore on Sunday, losing by 23 runs.
"Ashraful is the most experienced batsman in our side. Whenever he performs the team wins. I have spoken to him about it. The way he has been training I think a big score is round the corner," said the coach.
Left-handed batsman Shakib Al Hasan (75) and Tamim Iqbal (63) batted brilliantly in the third match but Bangladesh, needing 40 in the last three overs, fell just short in the end, with Aftab Ahmed also posting a handy 42.
"I put the heat on Shakib and Aftab after the second match and they responded well to it. I am now putting the heat on Ashraful in the same way and am confident he will come good in the last two matches," said Siddons, an Australian who took over last year.
Bangladesh face a further challenge as Pakistan's bowling attack will be boosted by the return of fit-again spearhead Mohammad Asif, who was included this week in the 16-man squad for Wednesday's game.
Asif last played in October and has been recovering from elbow surgery in December last year.
Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik said he hoped his team would keep their winning momentum.
"Our aim from the start was to win all the matches and we are on the track to achieve that," said Malik, whose team can equal the record of most successive one-day wins by a Pakistan team with a clean sweep against Bangladesh, set at eleven in 1990.
Pakistan won the last match in their 3-2 defeat against India in December last year, then beat Zimbabwe 5-0 in February ahead of the current series.
The fifth and final match is scheduled for Karachi on Saturday. Both teams play a Twenty20 international, also in Karachi, on Sunday.
KARACHI: Pakistan beat Bangladesh by 150 runs in the fifth and final one-day international to complete a 5-0series win at National stadium, Karachi on Saturday.
The 23-year-old left-hander scored 136 for his sixth one-day hundred, second in the series, and added a record 179 runs for the second wicket with Younis Khan (69) after Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat.
Pakistan, leading the five-match series 4-0, once again had a field day as the home batsmen piled misery on Bangladeshi bowlers who failed to stop the run spree.
Captain Shoaib Malik (27) and Misbah-ul Haq (35) added a quick fire 52 for the sixth wicket to give the final touches to the innings after Butt built the platform.
Butt, who hit his previous highest one-day score of 132 in the third match in Lahore on Sunday, hit 14 boundaries and a six during his punishing 124-ball knock.
Pakistan raced to 28 by the fifth over before losing Kamran Akmal, caught in the slips off paceman Mashrafe Mortaza for 10. Akmal hit two boundaries.
Butt and Younis steadied the innings, as both hit some delightful shots. Butt reached his hundred in as many balls, hitting nine fours and a six off spinner Shakib Al Hasan.
Younis, who returned to the squad as one of three changes, miscued a pull off Shahadat Hossain to be caught by a running Farhad Reza at square-leg. Younis hit four boundaries and a six during his 80-ball knock.
His partnership with Butt is a new Pakistan record against Bangladesh, beating the 123-run second wicket stand between Saeed Anwar and Rameez Raja at Colombo in 1997.
Butt too miscued a drive off spinner Abdul Razzak in the 38th over. Mohammad Yousuf fell for 22 and Shahid Afridi managed just four.
Pakistan lost four wickets in the final five overs as debutant Naumanullah made five while Wahab Riaz scored three.
Mortaza bowled accurately to finish with 4-65.
