Beijing Olympic torch arrives in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: The much-awaited Olympic torch has arrived in Pakistan Wednesday on the first stop in its Asian leg of the tour.
This is the first time after 1964 that an Olympic torch is passing through Pakistan.
The Beijing Olympic torch arrived tonight through a chartered a plane at the Chaklala Airport.
The torch is traveling 22 cities of the world.
Present to receive the torch at the airport were the officials of the Sports Ministry and the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA).
President POA General retired Arif Hasan, chairman CDA Kamran Lashari and other officials received the torch.
Strict security measures have been arranged in Islamabad on this occasion.
The ceremony of the Olympic torch will be held at the Sports Complex, Islamabad.
Squash legend Jahangir Khan and other personalities of sports and show business are included in the torch-bearers.
After the ceremony, the torch will leave for India in the next stage.
Pakistan is included among 19 countries of the world where the Olympic torch is traveling. It will reach Beijing on August 8.
