Pak women cricket team leaves for Australia World Cup
KARACHI: Pakistan 15-member women cricket team left for Sydney to participate in Women Cricket World Cup which will kick off March 7 in Australia.
Before leaving the Pakistan women''s cricket team captain Urooj Mumtaz said she was confident and hopeful that her team would give an improved performance in the eight-nation elite competition.
She said the primary aim of her team was to clinch a place in the second super six stage and that would be possible if the team won at least one match in the four-team group B competition.
Pakistan would look forward to register that victory either against India or Sri Lanka against whom the team had played in the past.
The team which recently played in the tri-nation competition in Bangladesh involving Sri Lanka had given it much needed experience of international cricket. The tour had helped it to identify its shortcomings which had been removed during the brief training period that the team had before the World Cup. During the camp special stress was laid on improving it''s fielding which was one of the weakest aspects in Bangladesh.
The team was better prepared, she said and hoped that the players would apply what they had learnt during the training period.
Manager of the team, Ayesha Asher was hopeful her pacers Qanita Jalil and Asmavia Iqbal would do well on the fast pitches that the team was expected to come across during the competition.
The players had to rise to the occasion and give their hundred percent to get better results. In a game of cricket where some times unexpected things happen Pakistani team would be looking forward to play its best and create some upsets.
