    Har ik sitam pe faqat maa'il -e- dua hona
    Likha gaya hai ab iss shehr ka fana hona

    Kharre hein ab to wujood -o- adam ki sarhad par
    Bas ik laghzish -e- paa par hai faisla hona

    Jo aadmi bhi mukammal na ban sakey thay abhi
    Unhein bhi ab to muyassar hua khuda hona

    Tamam shehr ki aankhen hein intizaar zada
    Inhi dinon mein hai phir koi haadsa hona

    Kisi mundair pe nazrein, na chilmanon pe nigaah
    Ke dil hi bhool gaya ab to mubtala hona

    Kabhi anaa ki faseelain, kabhi zameer ka touq
    Ye umr -e- qaid hai iss se kahan reha hona

    Hazaar saans ki dori ulajh hi jaaye "SHAM"
    Kabhi na apni tamanna ki intiha hona.
