De Villiers ton helps Delhi set Chennai 190-run tough target

DURBAN: South Africa�s star batsman AB de Villiers smashed a brilliant century helped Delhi Daredevils to set a tough target of 190 runs for Chennai Super Kings here at Kingsmead on Thursday.

AB de Villiers was unbeaten on 105 when his team reached 189 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

After Virender Sehwag won the toss and opted batting, Delhi�s start was disastrous as they lost both openers for only eight runs. Gautam Gambhir got out for a duck while Sehwag could make only six runs.

However, AB de Villiers and Tillakeratne Dilshan vame to rescue and added 68 runs for the third wicket. Dilshan made 50.

Medium-pacer Lakshmipathy Balaji was the most successful bowler for Chennai Super Kings with three wickets for only 18 runs while Manpreet Gony and Albie Morkel took one wicket each.

Delhi beat Chennai by 9 runs in exciting finish

DURBAN: Delhi Daredevils emerged victorious in an exciting high-scoring contest when they defeated Chennai Super Kings by nine runs here at Kingsmead on Thursday.

Chasing a tough target of 190 runs, Chennai began with a positive note by scoring 57 runs from just 5.2 overs and gave a tough fight to Delhi but gave up the match in the end with just ten runs away after losing nine wickets for 180 runs.

Their main scorers were Matthew Hayden, who hit 57 off just 27 balls with five fours and three sixes and Suresh Raina, who made 41 off 27 balls with fours and one six.

No other batsman could make any significant contribution before the accurate bowling and tight fielding from Delhi as Pradeep Sangwan claimed three wickets for 28 runs and Daniel Vettori got two for 29 while Ashish Nehra took one wicket.

Kings XI win against BRC by 7 wkts

DURBAN: Kings XI Punjab defeated Bangalore Royal Challengers by seven wickets in an IPL T20 cricket match here at Kings Stadium on Friday.

BRC decided to bat first after winning toss. Kallis (62), Rose Taylor (35) and Jessie Rider (32) were the top scorers from their side as they managed to put up 168 runs in the allotted 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Irfan Pathan and Yousuf Abdullah sent three players each to pavilion.

In reply, Ravi shone brilliantly as he struck 85 runs before being out while his side won the match by seven wickets.

The other top scorer remain unbeaten Yuvraj Singh with 30 runs.

Mumbai bowlers restrict Deccan at 168 runs

DURBAN: Despite a brilliant batting display by their top-order batsmen - Adam Gilchrist, Hershelle Gibbs and Dwayne Smith � Deccan Chargers were restricted to 168 runs by Mumbai bowlers here at Kingsmead on Saturday.

Winning the toss, Gilchrist elected to bat and opened the Deccan Chargers innings with Gibbs. Both gave a solid start of 63 runs and then Gibbs and Smith put 41 but later no other batsman could get into double figures as Mumbai bowlers dominated the scene.

Gibbs made 58 runs off 44 balls with six fours and two sixes, Gilchrist and Smith scored 35 runs each with three sixes and two sixes, respectively.

For Mumbai Indians, Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo claimed three wickets each for 19 and 34 runs, respectively while Harbhajan Singh and Sanath Jayasuriya took one wicket each.

Deccan beat Mumbai to remain on top in IPL

DURBAN: Deccan Chargers maintained their winning track by defeating Mumbai Indians by 12 runs here at Kingsmead on Saturday.

This was their third successive victory in second edition of the Indian Premier League.

Chasing a modest target of 169 runs, Mumbai began on a disastrous note as they lost veteran batsman Sanath Jayasuriya at only four runs on the board.

However, captain Sachin Tendulkar (36) and Jean-Paul Duminy (47) batted with responsibility and took the score to 86 runs when Tendulkar departed. Then wickets began to fall at regular intervals.

When the final over began, Mumbai needed 22 runs with four wicket remaining but they could make only nine runs and lost another wicket to give up the match.

Pragyan Ojha was the most successful bowler with three wickets for 21 while Fidel Edwards and RP Singh claimed two wickets each.

Earlier, Deccan Chargers captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and opted batting. He opened the innings with Hershelle Gibbs and both gave a solid start of 63 runs and then Gibbs and Dwayne Smith put 41.

IPL: Kolkata, Chennai match called-off

CAPE TOWN: Bad weather continued to play spoilsport at the Newlands cricket ground here as continuous rain washed out today''s Indian Premier League match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.

Brendon McCullum led Kolkata and Mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai got one point each after the abandonment of the tie.

It was raining since morning here and the match was called off without a ball being bowled.

Both the teams badly needed a win as each of them has lost two matches out of three. Before coming to this match, by virtue of their one win each, they had two points.

Chennai Super Kings now stand at third position in the points table while Kolkata Knight Riders are languishing at seventh spot.
