KKR collapsed for 101 against Deccan Chargers

CAPE TOWN: Kolkata Knight Riders could not play against accurate bowling by Deccan Chargers and werebundled out for only 101 runs in the third match of theIndian Premier League here on Sunday night.

The highest score for the KKR was 31 made by Brad Hodge as only three other batsmen could get into double figures.

For Deccan Challengers, Rudra Pratap was the main destroyer who captured four wickets for 22 runs while Pragyan Ojha and Scott Styris claimed two wickets each for 14 and 32, respectively.

Vettori shines as Delhi beat Punjab by 10 wickets

CAPE TOWN: New Zealand left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori took three for 15 as the Delhi Daredevils won a rain-shortened Indian Premier League match against Kings XI Punjab by ten wickets at Newlands Sunday.

Vettori''s bowling was mainly responsible for restricting the Kings XI to 104 for seven in 12 overs in an overs-reduced game after rain delayed the start by more than an hour and a half.

Indian opening batsmen Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir made a revised target of 54 in six overs look easy, with Sehwag finishing the match with his fourth six in an innings of 38 not out off 16 balls.

Punjab made a flying start, reaching 67 before losing their first wicket off the last ball of the sixth over when Vettori caught Karan Goel at mid-on of Yo Mahesh.

Goel hit 38 off 21 balls with three fours and three sixes, including a massive hit off Mahesh which sailed out of the ground beyond mid-wicket.

Vettori came on to bowl the next over after the mid-innings break and trapped Ravi Bopara (22) leg before with his first delivery.

The Punjab innings never regained momentum as Vettori took two more wickets in his three-over spell and two run-outs contributed to the collapse.

"I think spinners are going to play a huge part in the tournament," said man of the match Vettori, referring to good performances by Mumbai''s Harbhajan Singh, Rajasthan''s Shane Warne and Bangalore''s Anil Kumble Saturday on the first day of a double header opening weekend.

"Spinners have adapted as quickly as anyone in the Twenty20 game."

Sehwag and Gambhir reached 24 in 1.5 overs before rain halted play. The revised target meant they needed only another 30 runs off 4.1 overs.

IPL: Kings XI Punjab set Dehli 105 to win

CAPE TOWN: Delhi Daredevils bowler Daniel Vettori picked three crucial wickets to restrict Kings XI Punjab for 104/7 here on Sunday.

Punjab openers Karan Goel and Ravi Bopara fell in quick succession after the duo gave a sensational start to the team.

Karan butchered Delhi bowlers and made 38 runs before Yo Mahesh struck to dismiss him.

Put in to bat first by Delhi, Bopara and Karan started their ''12 overs a side'' game confidently and made 67 runs for the first wicket.

Karan, taking cue from his partner, also went on to smack the Delhi bowlers. In his quick fire knock of 38 runs, Karan hit three fours and three sixes.

He was looking to launch one from Mahesh into the crowd but the ball took the top edge of his bat and was taken by Vettori at mid-off.

Vettori was soon introduced and the Kiwi skipper proved his utility quickly as he caught Bopara plumb in front to the middle stump. He struck two massive sixes during his knock of 22 runs.

Vettori soon struck again to remove Sri Lankan batsman Sangakkara, who tried to go for the pull over the short fine leg region but found Dirk Nannes there. He could add only 8 runs.

Punjab skipper Yuvraj Singh played a couple of sixes before he was run-out by Vettori. Yuvraj made only 16 runs.

The shot off Avishkar Salvi''s last delivery had more elevation than the distance and was taken successfully by Dilshan.
