Razzaq flies London to partake World T20
LONDON: The stunning all-rounder of Pakistan cricket team Abdul Razzaq early on Friday departed to London from Lahore airport to participate in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup replacing unfit all-rounder Yasir Arafat, Geo news reported.
Talking to media persons at Allama Iqbal airport before departure, Razzaq said, “I will make all-out efforts, giving hundred percent, to hand Pakistan World T20 cup”.
His chances of inclusion in national team to play against Sri Lanka today are bleak, sources said.
Pakistan meet Sri Lanka in Super Eights of T20 World Cup
LONDON: Pakistan would take on Sri Lanka in its first match of Super Eights stage of Twenty20 World Cup today.
Geo Super will telecast the match live at 6:30 PST from Trent Bridge, Nottingham. In another match of the day, defending champion India will face West Indies. The match would be telecast live on Geo Super at 10:30 PST.
Pakistan is in group ‘F’ of Super Eights along with Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Ireland.
Younis happy to have Razzaq back
Younis Khan, the Pakistan captain, has welcomed the return of allrounder Abdul Razzaq to the Pakistan side after a two-year exile caused by his decision to opt for the Indian Cricket League. Razzaq was fast-tracked into the national Twenty20 squad in England shortly after quitting the ICL, but his participation in the opening Super Eights match against Sri Lanka at Lord's today is highly unlikely as he arrives just hours before the game.
"This game is not possible but I think he will manage the last two games," Younis said on the eve of the game. "He is a good name in world cricket and in Twenty20 he is a fantastic allrounder.
"He is a senior guy and his return will be good for Pakistan cricket. He would be in any team in the world."
Razzaq was one of several former ICL players granted amnesty by the Pakistan Cricket Board a few weeks ago shortly after the Indian board took the initiative to allow players to return from the unofficial league. Razzaq was named in the original list of 30 probables the PCB had sent to the ICC in early April - before the BCCI announced the amnesty - but the board made a U-turn and scratched his name off because the ICC objected to his ICL status. However, when Razzaq confirmed that he had snapped ties with the ICL, the PCB named him as an emergency replacement for the injured seamer Yasir Arafat.
Razzaq is likely to play the next Super Eights match against New Zealand at The Oval on Saturday.
Younis also took the opportunity to clarify some unusual comments he had earlier made on Twenty20 cricket, comparing it to "WWF" and saying that it was better to take it easy and have fun in this format. He defended his comments and urged everyone not to take them too seriously.
"I am a simple guy. Sometimes people think I am wrong because when we lose I am still laughing," Younis said. "You must look forward, if you lose or win. This is life. Sometimes you have good days, sometimes you have bad days."

Pakistan face 19-run defeat by Sri Lanka
LONDON: Sri Lanka kept their composure to beat Pakistan by 19 runs in their opening Super Eights match in the World Twenty20 at Lord's on Friday.
Defending a total of 150 for seven, Sri Lanka remained unbeaten at the tournament as they held Pakistan to a total of 131 for nine.
Fast bowler Lasith Malinga took three wickets for 18 runs.
Pakistan captain Younus Khan made 50 and put on 66 for the fourth wicket with Misbah-ul-Haq.
But the repair work the duo had carried out after Pakistan had been 35 for three was quickly undone by the loss of three quick wickets.
They lost two wickets in as many balls to be 101 for five in the 16th over with Misbah caught sweeping in the deep against Muttiah Muralitharan and the dangerous Shahid Afridi going the same way for a first ball duck.
Earlier, leg-spinner Afridi had kept Pakistan in the game as Sri Lanka, who had been 81 without loss, were restricted to 150 for seven.
But when Younus skied Malinga to wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara, the captain holding the catch despite colliding with Murali, Pakistan were 108 for six. Younus faced 37 balls with four fours.
Pakistan had still to score their first run when left-hander Salman Butt was clean bowled off the third ball of their innings by Angelo Mathews.
They then lost two wickets for one run in three balls in the sixth over to collapse to 35 for three.
Shoaib Malik, who'd hit five fours in his 28, was undone by Malinga's slower ball and chipped to Nuwan Kulasekara at mid-on.
Kamran Akmal was then run out after failing to beat Chamara Silva's throw.
At the end of the powerplay, Pakistan were 36 for three - and that was before Murali and fellow spinner Ajantha Mendis had bowled a ball between them.
Pakistan went 34 balls without a boundary before Younus swept Mendis for four and soon afterwards the captain handed out similar treatment to the more experienced Muralitharan.
Another swept four by Younus off Murali saw the skipper post a fifty stand in 47 balls .

India’s Yuvraj, Yusuf fight back against WI
LONDON: Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan staged a late rally to help India post 153-7 in the World Twenty20 Super Eights match at Lord''s here on Friday.
India, electing to bat on a slow wicket, had managed only 66 on the board by the 12th over for the loss of four wickets before Yuvraj and Yusuf put on 64 off 35 balls for the fifth wicket.
Left-handed Yuvraj, who hit England''s Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over in the inaugural T20 Worlds in South Africa two years ago, smashed a valuable 67 off 43 balls with six fours and two sixes.
Yusuf, elder brother of team-mate Irfan Pathan, made 31 as India plundered 87 runs in the final eight overs, including 56 in the last five.
Dwayne Bravo claimed four wickets, but at a cost of 38 runs from his four overs. Paceman Jerome Taylor went for 44 runs from his four.
The West Indies took early charge by claiming three wickets by the fifth over with just 29 on the board.
Fast bowler Fidel Edwards had Rohit Sharma top-edging a hook to Lendl Simmons at square-leg before focing Suresh Raina to give a low catch to wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin.
Simmons then sprinted back from square-leg to remove Gautam Gambhir with a
superb catch in Bravo''s first over.
When Bravo returned for his second over, the 12th of the innings, he claimed the wicket of Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni with his first delivery to make it 66-4.
Dhoni, who made 11, put on 37 for the fourth wicket with Yuvraj before slashing a catch to Andre Fletcher on the point fence.
Yuvraj''s knock included an imperious six over mid-wicket with a flick of his wrists off Taylor.
South Africa and hosts England are the other teams in the group from which two will advance to the semi-finals.
