Pak meet Ireland in T20 World Cup today

LONDON: Pakistan faced yet another must-win match in the ICC World Twenty20 here at the Oval today.

Pakistan will against Ireland in Super Eights clash in Group F whereas West Indies will face England in Group E.

Pakistan must beat Ireland with improve run rate to reach into the semifinals of the tournament. On the other hand, West Indies and England is more like quarterfinal, as the winner of the match will get the place in final four.

Geo Super will telecast both matches live for cricket lovers.

On Sunday, England showed India beat defending champion India by three runs and Sri Lankan secured victory against Ireland by nine runs.

England reach into women T20 World Cup semis

LONDON: England restricted Sri Lanka''s run chase to 69-8 as they comfortably won their World Twenty20 encounter to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

Claire Taylor hit an undefeated 75 as England posted 140-7.

Isa Guha returned figures of 2-4 with two maidens from her four overs as Sri Lanka fell 72 runs short of victory.

Australia restricted West Indies to 135-8 before Shelley Nitschke hit 58 as her team won by eight wickets.

Deandra Dottin struck 53 off just 25 deliveries at the top of the innings for the West Indies, with nine fours in her belligerent knock.

But Sarah Andrews and Lisa Sthalekar both took two wickets as Australia ensured they had a manageable target to chase.

And after Nitschke fell with the score on 83, Rene Farrell and Sthaleker saw the Australian team home, with both woman scoring undefeated 30s.

The result also means that unbeaten New Zealand are guaranteed to reach the semi-finals.

Indian skipper under fire after T20 defeat

LONDON: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni facing sharp criticism from media and spectators after Indian team’s exit from Twenty20 World Cup cricket tournament.

The defending champions were eliminated after they lost by three runs to England in their Super Eight clash on Sunday. They also lost to West Indies on Friday.

"We are sorry for what happened but we can say we gave our best," Dhoni told a news conference. "I think we have the guys who can handle the pressure, it was a day when nothing really worked for us."

Dhoni said India would bounce back at the next Twenty20 World Cup in the Caribbean next year.

"We can definitely prove a point over there. We were never really up to the mark but in nine months time there will be another World Cup and that is the only good thing we can say now," he said.

"Cricket never tests your character when you are doing really well. It tests you when you are not doing well. I think this is a testing time for us but it''s not the end of the road."

"We lost in the 2007 World Cup and we lost in 50 overs, that was the worst part of my career. This loss is disappointing but still I don''t think it comes near to the loss we had in the 50 overs World Cup."

Dhoni rejected suggestions that the prolonged Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition, staged in South Africa this year because of security concerns in India, had adversely affected his team.

"It is a demanding format because you play at different venues, it''s not like you play three or four games at the same point," he said. "But I personally believe it''s not an excuse."
