Pak cricket team leave for England
LAHORE: A 15-member Pakistan cricket team captained by Younis Khan left for England today to take part in Twenty20 World Cup. The tournament will begin from June 5.
The coach of national team Intikhab Alam said Pakistani players are in high spirits and we will return back home with good results. In Twenty20 format, none of the team declared because any team, which would deliver on a particular day, could win. He said it is unfortunate that Shoaib Akhter is not part of the team. This will be first Twenty20 World Cup of Ahmad Shahzad, Rao Iftikhar, Shahzeb Hasan, Muhammad Aamir and Saeed Ajmal.
Pakistan, runner up of first Twenty20 World Cup, would play first warm up match against South Africa on June 1and second warm up against India on June 3.
Pakistan will meet England in its World Cup opener on June 7 and second match against Holland on June 9.
best of luck
Smith hungry for world title
South African cricket has taken big strides over the past 12 months, including moving into top spot in ODIs, and Graeme Smith has said he wants to cap that with a win in the World Twenty20.
Smith's side are among the favourites for the title, and their limited-overs prowess is illustrated by their record of only one ODI-series loss in nearly two years. They have also won their previous two Twenty20s, beating Australia twice in March.
"We have had a wonderful past 12 months which has included winning away Test series in both England and Australia and winning home-and-away ODI series against Australia to gain top spot in the ICC rankings," PA quoted him as saying.
"One of the boxes we still want to tick is to win a major ICC championship and we have two chances to do that in the ICC World T20 next month and again in the ICC Champions Trophy which will be held in South Africa at the end of September."
Twelve of his 15-member squad played for various franchises in the IPL which ended earlier this month, and Smith said it helped warm them up for the World Twenty20. "I have been very happy with the form our players have shown in the IPL in the run-up to the World T20 and this augurs well for a good performance."
South Africa open the tournament in Group D, along with New Zealand and Scotland. They play their first warm-up game against Pakistan at Trent Bridge on June 1 and take on Sri Lanka in another practice match at Lord's on June 3, before heading over to the Oval for their first match of the tournament against Scotland on June 7.

New Zealand unperturbed by indifferent build-up
New Zealand coach Andy Moles and national selector Glenn Turner have shrugged off the indifferent performances by most of their players who took part in the IPL.
"The nature of the beast which is the Twenty20 game is very hit and miss," Turner said. He added that even net practice at the IPL was better than "sitting at home in the winter doing nothing".
Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum found form towards the end of the IPL, and Daniel Vettori was his miserly self in his limited chances, but the rest of the New Zealand players - including Jacob Oram, Jesse Ryder and Scott Styris - were totally out-of-sorts in South Africa.
New Zealand have had a better time of it after reaching England, posting a narrow win over Bangladesh and a more comfortable one over Ireland in the two warm-up matches so far.
"A lot of thought has gone into the preparation for this tournament and we hope that it will be rewarded," Moles said. "We have plenty of match-winners with bat and ball; it's a matter of them performing as consistently as possible. This is our strongest squad so there are no excuses."
New Zealand had reached the semi-finals of the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2007, and are grouped with Scotland and South Africa this time. They still have a couple more warm-up games to fine-tune their preparations - against India on June 1 and against Australia the day after.
