Pak win toss, elect to field vs England
LONDON: Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first against England in the sixth match of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup.

England must beat Pakistan in tonight's World Twenty20 match to stand a chance of surviving in a tournament they are hosting.

Less than 48 hours after their humiliation against Netherlands, England are fighting for their Twenty20 lives against Pakistan at The Oval. If the hosts lose they will crash out of their own tournament after just three days.

The fall-out from events at Lord's on Friday evening are still being felt and the team received harsh criticism in the media for their approach and tactics towards the game. They have made three changes to the team, with Kevin Pietersen returning from his injury to replace Eoin Morgan even though he clearly isn't 100% fit. But desperate times call for desperate measures.

Meanwhile Dimitri Mascarenhas will hope to solve the lack of six-hitting power in the middle-order. There are also two spinners in the line-up with Graeme Swann replacing Ryan Sidebottom and the signs from the first game of the day between Scotland and South Africa were that this used pitch will turn.

A victory here will keep England in the tournament and would mean a Super Eights berth if Pakistan beat Netherlands on Wednesday. Pakistan, though, are the most successful team in Twenty20 internationals and were runners-up in the 2007 tournament when they narrowly lost to India in the final. Such is their mercurial nature that two heavy defeats in the warm-up matches can't be seen as too significant because any Pakistan team can turn up on the day.

The most surprising selection in their side is the absence of Sohail Tanvir, the left-arm quick, who was such a success at the 2007 World Twenty20. But their batting packs a real punch with Shahid Afridi lurking in the middle order.

The other factor to consider, and a key reason why Pakistan bowled first, is the presence of some showers which could yet mean Duckworth-Lewis playing a part in this match. That's the last thing England need.

    Squads
England:- Ravi Bopara, Luke Wright, Kevin Pietersen, Owais Shah, Paul Collingwood (capt), Dimitri Mascarenhas, James Foster (wk), Adil Rashid, Graeme Swann, Stuart Broad, James Anderson

Pakistan:- Salman Butt, Ahmad Shahzad, Kamran Akmal (wk), Younis Khan (capt), Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul, Mohammad Amir, Saeed Ajmal
