    Default Pakistan give 176-run target

    Pakistan give 176-run target

LORD’S: Pakistan gave 176-run target to Netherlands in Group B match of ICC World Cup at the Lord’s on Tuesday.

Pakistan’s fate in the Twenty20 Cup hangs in balance as they must win by at least 25 runs to qualify for the Super 8 second round.

Kamran Akmal was the highest scorer who hit 41 out of 30 balls with the help of two sixers and three fours, followed by Younis Khan who hit 36 runs with the help of three sixers.

The most successful Dutch bowler was Seelaar who took two wickets off 36 runs.

The Dutch side which got better of England on Friday on the last ball of the match are equal on points table with the home side that comprehensively defeated Pakistan by 48 runs at The Oval on Sunday.

Pakistan’s destiny is to be decided through a permutation and calculation of the scoring rate which is lower than their two group counterparts.

In today’s game Pakistan need to win with about three overs to spare to qualify for the second round. Younis has put the onus on his senior batsmen like Shahid Afridi, Misbah ul Haq, Shoaib Malik and himself.

The Netherlands experience of international T20 competitions in restricted to the matches played at the qualifier in Belfast last year when it shared top honours with Ireland.

However, regarded as minnows the way they upstaged England show that the Dutch side is equally capable of pulling off surprises and Pakistan can ill afford to lower their guard.

Dirk Nannes, who will spearhead Dutch bowling has been described by Indian opener Virender Sehwag as the fastest bowler he had ever faced.

He was born and brought up in Australia but when he was omitted from Australia’s 30-man squad he accepted Holland’s invitation, qualifying on the back of his parent’s Dutch heritage.

Nannes has played with Middle+++ in the UK, Victoria in Australia and Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League. In addition to Nannes, Netherlands will be looking to their best player Ryan ten Doeschate of Es+++ to do some damage with the bat and ball with support from young Worcestershire batsman Alex Kervezee and the Man of the Match against England Tom de Grooth.

Captain Jeroen Smits will direct proceedings from behind the stumps while Peter Borren and Darren Reekers will provide valuable support to keep Dutch hopes alive.

    Netherlands team
AN Kervezee, DJ Reekers, B Zuiderent, DLS van Bunge, TN de Grooth, PW Borren, RN ten Doeschate, E Schiferli, J Smits, PM Seelaar, DP Nannes

    Pakistan team
Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Fawad Alam, Mohammad Aamer, Sohail Tanvir

LORD’S: Pakistan gave 176-run target to Netherlands in Group B match of ICC World Cup at the Lord’s on Tuesday.

Pakistan scored 175 for five wickets against the Netherlands with quite dismal action on ground. Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat.

Pakistan’s destiny is to be decided through a permutation and calculation of the scoring rate which is lower than their two group counterparts.

Pakistan need to contain the Dutch players from scoring 150 runs; if it happens, then Pakistan will move into the Super Eight round. However, if Netherlands hit 150 runs, it will automatically go to the next round.

Default NZ win toss, elect to bowl

NZ win toss, elect to bowl

LORD’S: New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl against South Africa in Group D match of ICC Twenty20 World Cup.

While England and Australia suffered early shocks, there have been no such problems for South Africa and New Zealand. South Africa thumped Scotland by 130 runs on Sunday and New Zealand also wiped them aside, overcoming a slight scare when they gave up 89 runs in seven overs during Saturday''s rain-reduced contest at The Oval.

Both teams have already qualified for the next phase so this contest is reduced to a Super Eight warm-up, with no points being carried through from the group stage. New Zealand''s bowlers will use the contest to fine-tune following their heavy punishment in the opening game while the batsmen on both sides will attempt to maintain their gargantuan hitting.

The way de Villiers, Kallis, Morkel, Taylor, McCullum and Ryder struck the ball in their first outings was frightening. South Africa''s display was superior and was probably the most impressive of the tournament so far, but they know they will have to repeat it against major sides if they are to end their drought at global events.
