Federer ousted from Rogers Cup
MONTREAL: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga upset Roger Federer at the Rogers Cup, making a dramatic comeback to beat the world''s top-ranked player, 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Federer led, 5-1, in the third set before the Frenchman broke his serve twice in front of a frenzied crowd in Montreal. The Wimbledon champion hung on to force a tiebreaker, but Tsonga used two aces to take the lead and Federer double-faulted on match point.
Tsonga ended Federer''s 22-match winning streak and earned a spot in the semifinals against Andy Murray, who earlier advanced with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Nikolay Davydenko.
In an evening match, fifth-seeded Andy Roddick recovered from a second-set service break to advance with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory over fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic.
Roddick will face Juan Martín del Potro, who pulled off a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory over defending champion Rafael Nadal, who was coming back from 10 weeks off to treat tendinitis in both knees.
Playing her first tournament in more than two years, the Belgian couldn''t keep up with the world''s top-ranked player. Dinara Safina repeatedly broke her serve during a 6-2, 7-5 victory to reach the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open and finish Clijsters''s uplifting week back on the court.
