    England beat South Africa by 22 runs

    CENTURION: England defeated South Africa by 22 runs, restricting them at 301-9 in the day/night match here at the Super Sport Park on Sunday.

    Chasing a difficult target of 324 runs, South Africa could not achieve despite a fine hundred by their captain Graeme Smith who opened the innings and got out as ninth victim batsman, scoring 141from 133 balls with 16 fours.

    AB de Villiers made 36 while no other batsman could make any significant contribution.

    For England, James Anderson and Stuart Broad claimed three wickets each

    Earlier, captain Andrew Strauss won the toss and decided to bat first after which England piled up a huge total of 323 runs for the loss of eight wickets to set an improbable target for the hosts.

    Owais Shah made 98 from 89 balls and smashed six sixes and five fours while Paul Collingwood scored 82 off 94 balls with six fours and a six. Both added 163 runs for the third wicket partnership.

    Eoin Morgan also hit a hurricane 67 off 34 balls, smashing five sixes and four boundaries.

    Wayne Parnell secured three wickets while Johan Botha claimed two wickets. Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis also took one wicket each.

    CENTURION: India will face tough Australians in the ICC Champions Trophy today, when it is imperative for her to defeat the rivals in a bid to retain its place in the event.

    This vital match between India and Australia will kick off at 2.30 P.M. (local time) here today. The Indian team shall have to win both the matches in order to remain in the event.

    Pakistan team in Group ‘A’ winning two matches has already acquired the top position on the points-table.

    England cricket team fined for slow over rate

    CENTURION: The England team has been fined for a slow over-rate during its 22-run victory over South Africa in their Champions Trophy 2009 match at Centurion.

    Roshan Mahanama of the Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the fines after Andrew Strauss''s side was ruled to be one over short of its target at the end of the match.

    In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

    As such, Strauss was fined 10 per cent of his match fee while his players received five-per-cent fines.

    CENTURION: Australia captain Ricky Ponting has won the toss and decided to bat first against India in their important Group A match in the ICC Champions Trophy here at the SuperSport Park on Monday.

    This will be a tough contest for India facing Australians and it is imperative for them to defeat the rivals in a bid to retain their place in the event.

    The Indian team shall have to win both their remaining matches in order to remain in the event.

    Pakistan team in Group ‘A’ winning two matches have already acquired the top position on the points-table.

    CENTURION: Rain interrupted Australian batting charge against India when they were on 234 runs for four wickets in 42.3 overs in the day/night match in Group A of the ICC Champions Trophy here at SuperSport Stadium on Monday.

    Australia lost opener Shane Watson fell for nought at only 3 runs on the board after captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat.

    However, Ponting took out their team out of trouble and added 84 runs with opener Tim Paine (56) and then 88 with Mike Hussey (67).

    Ponting made 65 with four boundaries and a six.

    Cameron White was batting on 35 and Callum Ferguson on 2 when rain stopped play.

    India made two changes as Praveen Kumar came into the side replacing Yousuf Pathan and RP Singh made way for Amit Mishra who is playing his first One-day International for more than six years.

    Australia on other side did not make any change in their team which won the first match.
