KARACHI: Pakistani cricket team Coach Intikhab Alam Thursday said Pakistan team can win Champions Trophy, adding Muhammed Asif would be given chance viewing the circumstances including the pitch.
Talking to media at Karachi Airport before leaving for South Africa, he said Pak team has aimed at winning the trophy, nothing less than that.
‘We have three openers and team’s performance is quite well; hence, we can win the Champions Trophy, if the boys play with potential fully tapped,’ he observed.
Twenty20 World Cup win has helped boost the confidence of the players and also the training camps held in Lahore and Karachi also benefited them.

Pak team leaves for SA to play CT
KARACHI: Pakistan’s 15-member cricket team left here on Thursday for South Africa to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Coach Intikhab Alam said that the Pakistan team has potential to beat any team.
Pakistan team reached the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport for participating in the Champions Trophy to be held in South Africa from September 22.
First, captain Younis Khan came in his personal car and later the national team with its management reached the airport.
Allrounder Shahid Afridi also came in his personal car along with the bus carrying the team.
Pakistan coach was looking determined for getting good results.
ICC Champions Trophy unveiling ceremony
NEW DELHI: ICC Champions Trophy will formally kick off from September 22 in South Africa, while the event’s unveiling ceremony held here was participated by Wasim Akram and Sanjay Manjrikar.
ICC Champions Trophy is beginning September 22 in South Africa, which the cricket world is anxiously awaiting and all eyes are focused on the Gold and Silver Trophy, as to which team is going to lift.
The glittering trophy’s unveiling ceremony was held here, when Pakistan’s former captain Wasim Akram and former Indian test cricketer Sanjay Manjrikar were present, while ICC was represented by its General manager Cambell Jemison, who said that hard work has been done for making the event successful and he firmly believed that it would a memorable event,
Eight best teams of the world are participating in the Champions Trophy, while excellent arrangements have been made for the event.
Wasim Akram on this occasion said that South African wickets would be bouncy and fast, therefore, it would be a trying event for the Asian players.

Pakistan to play CT warm-up match today
JOHANNESBURG: In preparation of the Champions Trophy, Pakistan cricket team will play their warm-up match against Sri Lanka while hosts South Africa will face the West Indies here today.
Process of teams arrival continues here for the participation in the mega event.
Johannesburg has become the centre of attraction for all people these days as the participating teams have begun to arrive here and the process of press conferences continues besides practice sessions.
While talking with media ahead of the warm-up match against Pakistan, Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara said that his team has recently displayed very good performance due to which he is hopeful of success in the Champions Trophy.
Captain of hosts team, Graeme Smith and the West Indian captain, Floyd Reifer are also determined for achieving success before the warm-up match.
Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori also desirous of making a come back with good performance in the Champions Trophy.
Indian team leaves for playing Champions Trophy
MUMBAI: Indian cricket team on Friday has left Mumbai for South Africa to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has come back in the team.
The Indian team won the three-nation tournament in Sri Lanka last week.
Captain Mahinder Singh Dhoni said before departing here that the morale of his players is high because the same team had won the Twenty20 World Cup two years ago.
He said that Gambhir’s comeback has made the team stronger.
Gambhir did not take part in the triangular series in Sri Lanka as he was injured.
India are included in Group A of the mega event along with defending champions Australia, Twenty20 champions Pakistan and the West Indies.
