Haripur signifies a rich and developing social capital in the Hazara region. It has two tehsils; Haripur (37 UCs) and Ghazi (7 UCs). The area is rich in natural resources and holds special significance because of two very important water reservoirs; Tarbela dam and Khanpur dam.

Haripur was founded in 1822 by Hari Singh Nalva, a Sikh General of Ranjit Singh's army. He was the Governor of Kashmir in 1822-23 A.D. after whom it is named. Haripur is surrounded by mountains, a piece of land adorned with beautiful streams, springs, rivers, lakes, gardens, lush green plains and meadows.
