National Games in NWFP poses threat to players: Punjab sports minister
LAHORE: Sports Minister of Punjab Dr. Tanveerul Islam has demanded postponement of National Games due to deteriorating law and order situation in NWFP. The games will be held next month in Peshawar.
Talking to Geo News here, provincial minister said security situation in NWFP is not satisfactory at the moment and he will not allow Punjab contingent to take part in the games till 100 percent assurance and briefing will not be given to him regarding security.
Dr. Tanveer said NWFP while challenging Taliban said that games will be held as per schedule in Peshawar which poses threat to players’ lives. He will not allow putting lives of at least 8,000 players in jeopardy.
He said if it is necessary to organize games according to schedule, it should be shifted at other center. Lahore is ready to host the games, he added.
