49th National Amateur Golf Championship kicks off today
LAHORE: The 49th National Amateur Golf Championship is starting at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club here today.
“Only national players of the country will take part in the event as no foreign entry has been received,” Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) general secretary Taimur Hasan told reporters at a news conference.
“The invitation was extended to India, Iran, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal as they had been participating in this competition. But they did not confirm their participation,” Taimur added. He said though players of those countries were willing to play in Pakistan but their respective governments did not allow them.
He said men having handicap of 9 and below and women with handicap limit of 24 were eligible to feature in the tournament. “While men will play on all four days, the women’s competition has been confined to three days from March 19 to 21. Inter-provincial contest over 54 holes from March 18 to 20 will also be played with teams from all four provinces pitched against each other.”
