Bollywood Gossip: A few days ago, Bollywood Actress Priyanka Chopra had found Kashmir ’stunning’ and ‘ beautiful’, much to the delight of the people from the state.
But all that goodwill may evaporate into thin air now. On Thursday, the actress literally blundered on Twitter saying she will be ‘ back to civilisation soon’. The context of the tweet was, well, her departure for Delhi from Srinagar.
Priyanka Chopra did what no Bollywood personality, let alone heroines, has done in over two decades: Shoot in downtown Srinagar, a hotbed of militancy.
Since 1990, no Bollywood personality has ventured into the downtown area of Zadibal. In the 1990s, it was the hotbed of armed insurgency.
Even now almost every violent protest and agitation that hits Srinagar starts here.
The last time Bollywood tried its luck in Zadibal was in 1998, when Muzaffer Ali wanted to shoot his film Habba Khatoon in the area, but later changed his mind.
But a defence service personnel’s daughter, Priyanka seems to be tougher. She was shooting at the historical Jalali House in Zadibal.
And then came the business of the tweet gone sour. Probably realising that her remark was unsavoury – or maybe somebody else pointed it out to her – Priyanka Chopra soon issued a clarification: ‘ By ‘back to civilisation’ I meant coming back to my regular life,’ she tweeted. But she admits that the Kashmir schedule has been tiring.
What is even more interesting is, Priyanka’s ’slip of tongue’ comes amid reports that she is being considered by the tourism department as Jammu and Kashmir’s brand ambassador.
‘Sorry I have been away… shooting in Kashmir has been insanely tiring…last day in Srinagar…off to Delhi this afternoon! Phew… will b ( sic) back to civilisation soon… yayayayaayayayya!!’ she wrote on her Twitter account on Thursday.
Though Priyanka Chopra has come clean on her tweet, she can’t be blamed for feeling a bit lonely in the stunning and serene Srinagar. Her last movie, Anjaana Anjaani, had taken her to ultra- busy and ultramodern locales such as New York and Los Angeles.
In Kashmir, Priyanka’s movements were restricted due to security reasons. She shot for the film surrounded by three- four security men. This is the first time Priyanka Chopra is shooting in Kashmir.
Unlike the night dos or recreational outings Bollywood stars indulge in during outdoor shooting schedules, Priyanka did not venture out in the city much on her own. But that doesn’t mean she wasn’t floored by Kashmir’s scenic beauty. ‘Kashmir has been truly amazing and I love it… you guys MUST plan holidays here,’ she tweets, adding that the state is
‘absolutely safe’. She goes on: ‘Kashmir is definitely a place I wanna come to on a visit… stay on a house boat… walk around the lake.’ She says she will be back ‘with my loved ones for a holiday’. For Priyanka Chopra, another thing that made the Kashmir trip special is Gulzar’s poetry. ‘I have always been Gulzar saab’s biggest fan. It couldn’t get any better, the most beautiful place on earth and Gulzar saab’s poetry,’ she reportedly said.
Last week, Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan shot at the famous Shalimar Gardens in Srinagar. She feels that her role in the film is ‘most difficult’ so far. ‘I have been so lost… this project is taking the mickey out of me,’ she tweets.
Saat Khoon Maaf is already being hyped as the movie in which Priyanka plays a woman who has seven husbands. Suzine, the character played by Priyanka, converts to Islam after she falls in love with a Kashmiri, Nawab Waseebullah, played by Irrfan Khan.
But soon after marriage, she realises she is not in love with Nawab. She then conspires with three of her trusted servants and kills the man. In the film, Suzine marries seven times and kills each husband after realising she is not in love with the person she married.
Apart from Srinagar, the film will also be shot in Bangalore, Russia, Hyderabad and Delhi.
