Pakistani boxers lose in China Boxing
KARACHI: Experienced Nisar Khan and promising Muhammad Waseem lost their quarterfinals of the China Open International Boxing tournament being contested in Guiyang, China.
Nisar Khan lost his 75kg quarter-final to the Asian champion Zhang Jiang of China 2-12 while Quetta-born Muhammad Waseem, the most successful Pakistani boxer to have claimed three bronze medals at the international level for the last one year, conceded his 51kg quarter-final bout to Beijing Olympics silver medalist Hernandez Andres of Cuba in the 51kg after extending a valiant fight.
The result remained 2-4 in favour of the Cuban. But Waseem showed that he is the right man for Pakistan who is capable to show wonders at the international level.
Heavyweight boxer Mir Waiz is the only hope left for the country to compete in the semifinals. Mir will face Syrian boxer in the pre-final today (Friday).
