Pakistan restrict Black Caps to 133 runs

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: Pakistan bowlers restricted New Zealand batsmen to 130 runs in a World Twenty20 Super Eights match at the Kensington Oval here on Saturday.

After Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi won the toss and put them into bat, New Zealand could not make a big score as they set a modest target of 134 runs for Pakistan.

Captain Daniel Vettori and opener Brendon McCullum were the main scorers for New Zealand: Vettori was run out off the penultimate ball of the innings for 38, which he made from 34 balls with two sixes and one four while McCullum scored 33 off 29 balls with five fours.

Scott Styris (21) and Nathan McCullum (12) were the only other batsmen to enter into double-figures while number of extras were 15.

For Pakistan, spinners Abdul Rehman and Shahid Afridi claimed two wickets each for 19 and 29, respectively while fast bowler Mohammad Sami captured two for 25.

This is an important match for both sides after they each lost their opening second round Group E fixtures here on Thursday, New Zealand going down by 13 runs to South Africa and Pakistan suffering a six-wicket loss to England.

Both sides made two changes each following those defeats.

New Zealand brought in pace bowlers Ian Butler and Kyle Mills to replace fellow seamers Tim Southee and Jacob Oram.

Meanwhile Pakistan recalled Mohammad Sami in place of Mohammad Asif and brought in left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman for Fawad Alam.

    Teams
Pakistan: Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal (wk), Mohammad Hafeez, Umar Akmal, Shahid Afridi (captain), Misbah-ul-Haq, Abdul Razzaq, Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Aamer, Mohamamd Sami, Saeed Ajmal.

New Zealand: Brendon McCullum, Jesse Ryder, Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Scott Styris, Gareth Hopkins (wk), Ian Buttler, Daniel Vettori (captain), Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Shane Bond.
