KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday issued a notice to former captain Younis Khan, threatening to initiate legal proceedings against him and re-impose a ban if he did not contact PCB within a week to resolve his case with them.
The appellate tribunal has removed an indefinite ban on Younis but the PCB has insisted he must first meet chairman Ijaz Butt before he can be cleared to play for Pakistan again.
A PCB source said that a notice had been sent to Younis on Saturday in which he had been given one week’s time to contact them and resolve the issue.
“If he doesn’t contact us in a week’s time with reference to his case than we will issue him a fresh showcause notice and move to reimpose the ban on him,” the source said.
The notice to Younis apparently is a move to pressurise the former captain as there has been growing public anger and criticism from former players over the PCB’s refusal to consider Younis for the national team.
Former chief selector Iqbal Qasim criticised the PCB for targetting Younis. “Younis’ omission is a case of ego problem,” Qasim said. “Not selecting him in spite of his ban (being) overturned is (an) injustice and is definitely a loss to the team.”
Another former chief selector, Abdul Qadir, urged the PCB and Younis to resolve their differences.
