Today the computer viruses, malwares, Trojans and other infections are increasing at an alarming rate and in such scenario the need for a good antivirus becomes totally inevitable. Today viruses not only attacks computer only but they are even effecting mail servers, social networking sites etc. You might be knowing with the fact that recently Bom Sabado has dismantled world by attacking most of applications of social networking sites.
So to install a good antivirus program on your computer is indispensible. Most of the antivirus available are generally paid ones or if they are free then they give partial protection. But AVG is the most popular brand which gives free security software for Windows and Linux. The first noticeable change in AVG 2011 is the graphical interface has been slightly upgraded. They have changed the colours but still the layout is same. But personally I like colours of earlier version.
But that doesn’t matters. The icon in system tray is also added with little animation affect. The things which adds more protection are addition in Anti-Spyware (which has now over 170000 definitions) and also some additions in Anti-Rootkit modules. The other noticeable feature is the AVG social networking protection which helps to scan the links present in social networking site.
PC Analyzer is the best new feature which I seen in this tool. With this option you can simply scan for registry error, junk files, fragmentations and Broken shortcuts. And believe me this feature works pretty good as compared to other tools. I am using CCleaner but still you can see data below too see how powerful this tool is.
I just can’t even imagine that I could have 344 errors in Registry even after using CCleaner daily. Really hats off to the developer of this tool. This tool also detects whenever an application is in full screen and put the antivirus into suspend mode. The Game mode feature is as usual present in this version too. The update manager works pretty fast as usual and best thing is that it automatically checks for updates after regular intervals and even takes very less time to download and install those updates. This is probably the best feature which you won’t found in other antiviruses.
The new anti-Rookit scan has been added in this tool. You can even schedule this tool to do daily scanning automatically from Manage Scheduled Scans. There are also options available to scan on for those specific files and folders which you want. The scanning is pretty fast and you can even choose the speed of scanning.
Now let me tell some resource usage data of this tool. When this tool is idle, it only utilizes 8 Mb of RAM and it is really best as compared to other software available. During scanning, it utilizes only 1.5 Mb RAM and about 25 percent CPU. It even consumes very less power on the notebooks. So in short, it won’t even degrade the performance of your system as usually done by other antiviruses.
AVG also also added a Desktop Gadget with this tool which enhances its user friendliness. The gadget looks pretty cool and it is integrated with options to Scan and Update which is probably the best to fast access this tool.

The problem which I faced which trying to install it without uninstalling the AVG 8.5 (i.e previous version) is that I was unable to install it and it was repeatedly reporting me an error. I tried to restart the PC and then reinstall this tool but that too doesn’t solved the problem for me. So I finally uninstall the previous version and then install this new version. Then it works perfectly for me. I think that may be the issue with the key as this tool was earlier using my previous version key only.
This is the snapshot of error which I got. So I recommend everyone to first uninstall your previous installed antivirus program and then only install this tool.+ And eventually one more thing I would like to add that the free versions are good for those who don’t uses internet for doing online transaction or doing online confidential work but if you does any of them, then it is always recommended that you use full version to ensure full protection against hacking, spamming and phishing.
