18126 - Chelsea not interested in Modric - Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti has distanced Chelsea from reports claiming they are preparing to launch a bid to sign Tottenham star Luka Modric, declaring "we are not interested" and insisting his squad is good enough "in this moment".

According to Dinamo Zagreb vice-president Zdravko Mamic, Modric was a £30million target for Ancelotti but the Blues boss has rubbished the claims.

"Modric is a good player but we are not interested," he said. "We have to have respect for Tottenham. He is a good player but nobody speaks of Modric here."

With Frank Lampard and Jose Bosingwa available for the game with Arsenal on December 27, Ancelotti's squad is returning to full-strength at just the right time. The Premier League champions play four matches in 10 days across Christmas and New Year, but Ancelotti feels his team has seen the back of their "bad moment" and are fully prepared for the busy festive period.

"This period is very important for the Premier League," he said. "We have to be focused on this period. "I think we had a problem because we had a lot of players injured and I think for this reason we had a bad moment. But now the squad is good, we have a lot of players in good condition. I think the squad is enough in this moment to play this game [against Arsenal] at our best.

Manchester United winger Nani has written off Arsenal and Manchester City's title challenges, with the Portuguese flyer predicting a two-horse race between United and Chelsea. Ancelotti, however, believes the league is wide open.

"Also Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham has the skill to fight for the title until the end. I think it will be a race because a lot of teams have a possibility to win, not just Manchester United and Chelsea," he said.
