Ghana suspended by International Olympics Committe
Ghana may not compete at the London 2012 Olympics after the country was suspended by the International Olympic Committee because of "political interference".
The executive board voted to suspend the National Olympic Committee of Ghana (GOC) after months of wrangling between the two parties.
IOC president Jacques Rogge claimed the country's sports law did not "respect the provisions of the Olympic charter", and in a statement the IOC condemned "the obvious lack of co-operation of the government authorities in Ghana".
"There have been many promises that the law would be changed but nothing materialised," Rogge said.
The ban means that Ghana's Olympic funding has been withdrawn, but Rogge revealed athletes may be permitted to compete under an independent banner.
"If the situation is not resolved we definitely will consider measures that will still help the athletes," Rogge said.
