Robbie Keane has accused Birmingham City of publicity hunting, after claiming a deal was never on the table for him to make the move to St Andrew's.

Keane was given permission to speak to Blues, but the second city club released a statement on Monday claiming they walked away from the table on account of a move for the Republic of Ireland international not being financially viable.

The striker remains a Tottenham player for the moment and after taking part in a reserve game on Tuesday, he emerged to try and clarify the situation.

"The Birmingham thing was never on, so what was said yesterday was strange to see," Keane told Sky Sports News. "The Birmingham stuff was bizarre, the statement from them which I found strange.

"A deal was never really on the table. Maybe Birmingham were looking for a bit of publicity."

Tottenham are happy to let Keane move on in January, but he is far from certain about making a transfer in the current window.

"There is nothing yet," he said. "We will see what happens. There is a couple of weeks yet. I am not sure and we will find out."
