I want to be No. 1 - Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic has set his sights on becoming world No. 1 after claiming his second Australian Open title in Melbourne.
The Serb beat Andy Murray in straight sets to claim his second grand-slam title, three years after his first.
And having beaten defending champion Roger Federer in the semi-finals, he believes he has the weapons in his armoury to break the stranglehold Federer and incumbent No. 1 Rafael Nadal hold on the top ranking.
"My goal is to be No.1 of the world and I'm doing everything in order to achieve that," Djokovic said.
"Every year I have the highest ambitions because I always believed in my abilities and believed in my quality and I know that I can win grand slams and I have proven that."
Sunday's final was the first time since the 2008 Australian Open not to feature either Nadal or Federer, and Djokovic believes the gulf between the top two and the challengers has shrunk, and he is confident he can win more grand slams in his bid to become the best player in the world.
"I know how to handle pressure, how to handle the big stage, so I guess it's just a matter of continuous hard work and dedication and consistency in the results and the ranking will come by itself," he said.
"But it's going to be very hard because the main rivals for that spot, next to Murray and [Robin] Soderling, are Federer and Nadal, the two best players in the world who are winning most of the tournaments they play and most of the grand slams.
"So if I want to become the best player in the world, I will have to win more grand slams and try to get more points there. I don't want to stop here. Definitely I want to keep my body healthy, fit and ready for some more challenges to come. I feel that I have a good game for all the surfaces. I have proven that in the past."
Djokovic remains third in the world rankings, although he has closed the gap on No. 2 Federer. There is no change in the top ten.
In the women's rankings, Kim Clijsters leapfrogs Vera Zvonareva into second spot following her Australian Open victory, while Li Na returns to the top ten at the expense of Serena Williams, who slips to No. 12 after she missed the defence of her title with an injury.
British No. 2 Anne Keothavong returned to the top 100 following her second-round appearance in Melbourne.
