Owners Venky's had previously said that Kean, who was appointed after the departure of previous manager Sam Allardyce in December, was 'unsackable' at Ewood Park, and Rao maintains that he still has everyone's backing.

"Absolutely, there is no question about it," Rao told Sky Sports, when asked whether Kean will remain at the club. "Other managers come and go, but he is very, very, very important."

Rao also said it was "absolutely not" true that the Indian owners are already looking to offload the club.

Earlier, a spokesman for the club reiterated that reports of Kean's impending demise, among other rumours surrounding the club, had been greatly exaggerated.

"We don't know why people keep writing these things or where they come from. I can say that speculation is wrong," the spokesman told the Lancashire Telegraph. "We are happy to say Steve Kean still has our 100% backing and there has been nothing like that going on at all.

"[Club chairwoman] Mrs Desai has been in India, not London."
